Topic: Non flash version?

Is there a way to have a non Flash version version of an AutoViewer Pro gallery? How about an HTML5 one?

Re: Non flash version?

Humm it is sad that there is no answer to you question!! I need my photos to display on an Iphone and a Ipad so I need a non flash version - is that possible? And coming in the near future or do I have to look on other solutions? I hope not since I like Simpleviewer.

Re: Non flash version?

Hi, we are looking at building an iPhone/iPad compatible version of the Airtight viewers. No ETA as yet.

Re: Non flash version?

This would be great! I'm in the same boat looking for a non-flash version.

Is there any way we can sign up for info on non-flash/ipad version?
Thank you for all your hard work. You have excellent products and a great reputation.

Re: Non flash version?

Felix I absolutely love you viewers, especially AutoViewer. It is now more important than ever for me as a photographer to be able to display my work in non flash way with the launch of the new iPad. I really really dont want to be forced to choose another viewer. Autoviewer is just so spot on. Just so you know, I will purchase a non flash AutoViewer the moment its released. I am just not sure how long I can wait. I was in the middle of a website redesign and with all the pesky non flash Apple news I think I am going to have to drop the current AutoViewer plan. sad

I wait with fingers crossed for any announcement.

Re: Non flash version?

Hello, I love the Simple Viewer Pro that I have running on my website but I'm kind of in the same boat.  I really need a non-flash alternative.  So far your product really fits the way I want things to look and switching would be a drag.  I would imagine porting the application over would be a pain but it sure would simplify things.

So please put me down as another customer looking for a non-flash solution!

Re: Non flash version?

I was looking for an easy solution to create a portfolio website for my wife and I fell on to your website. I am very intrigued by the beauty of the galleries and their simplicity but as long as Flash-free version is not out, I am not sure if I can jump on the boat just yet. If Simpleviewer is updated to support iPhone, would the customers who have bought the latest version must pay extra?

Re: Non flash version?

Please do come out with an html5 version! Flash seems to be on the way out.

Re: Non flash version?

yes , that would be cool - a non flash version.
i like the viewers, i use autoviewer and postcardviewer a lot!
thx for the stuff.  smile

Me too! Would be awesome on the iPad!!

Re: Non flash version?

I would also like HTML5 version that works nicely with mobile devices.

Re: Non flash version?

funny, I saw this thread today. I am up against the same problem - I am about to tackle a large project using autoviewer (which I have used for a long time now) but have been debating going with jquery or autoviewer... The problem is I can't seem to find any sliders that are as elegant and well done as autoviewer in jquery. So I would also like to cast my vote for a release of a non-flash version.

Re: Non flash version?

I agree, the interface is very nice but it could be incorporated into something that would allow mobile devices to work, maybe a little DHTML/Javascript action, idk. At this point I'm considering using Google or Facebook APIS to pull the photos in from an album and display them in a format that plays nicely with some of the mobile devices out there. I would just use their album functionality but that pulls the user away from the site therefore losing navigation functionality. Hope SimpleViewer will save us ;-).

Re: Non flash version?

Chiming in that I too would love a non-Flash, user maintained photo gallery that works on mobile/iPhone/iPad like devices.
Thanks!

Re: Non flash version?

Something like this http://www.apple.com/html5/showcase/gallery/
Apple shows us it is possible now without Flash!

Re: Non flash version?

What I would like is the piece of code which would allow me to detect if the person does not have Flash and in that case to just simply display the photos and captions simply on the webpage, not necessarily in a fancy gallery but at least the people could see the pictures if using on an ipad.  Thanks in advance, Jenny  smile

My code that I use at the moment is :
<h1 class="title">Photograph Gallery 2008-2009</h1>
   <p>Photographs from concerts :</p>
<div id="flashcontent">SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player.
<a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Flash.</a></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
var fo = new SWFObject("viewer.swf", "viewer", "570", "560", "8", "#FFFFFF");
fo.write("flashcontent");
</script>

SWFOjbect will do just that, take your <div id="flashcontent"> and replace the text inside of it with image tags and captions.
Change:

<div id="flashcontent">SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player.
<a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Flash.</a></div>

To:

<div id="flashcontent">
<!--image 1--> <img src="thepathtoyourimage/image.jpg" alt="image description"><p>Your Caption</p>
<!--image 2--> <img src="thepathtoyourimage/image.jpg" alt="image description"><p>Your Caption</p>
<!--etc.-->
</div>

Re: Non flash version?

Mike,

Thanks for your reply.
I wonder if you can help me though with how to lay it all out :

What I want to basically program is :

If I detect Flash is there then display simple viewer gallery as before

Else if no Flash detected (ie person has an iPad !) then simply display pictures as a list on the webpage

Re: Non flash version?

That is what SWFObject does, which is what you are using to embed your gallery, anything inside of the <div id="flashcontent"> is replaced if the user has flash otherwise the contents of the div are shown.

So your code would look like this.

<h1 class="title">Photograph Gallery 2008-2009</h1>
   <p>Photographs from concerts :</p>
<div id="flashcontent">
<!--image 1--> <img src="thepathtoyourimage/image.jpg" alt="image description"><p>Your Caption</p>
<!--image 2--> <img src="thepathtoyourimage/image.jpg" alt="image description"><p>Your Caption</p>
<!--etc.-->
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
var fo = new SWFObject("viewer.swf", "viewer", "570", "560", "8", "#FFFFFF");
fo.write("flashcontent");
</script>

Re: Non flash version?

Thank you - I will try that !
I may take some time to reply as I will need to check if it works on an iPad but will let the forum know how I get on.

Thanks again Mike,

Jenny

Re: Non flash version?

Need a non flash version through html? But I will try your suggestions, i really hope its working.
by the way, thanks for sharing some information regarding this matter.

Re: Non flash version?

Mike,

I have it working on one of my galleries and its just what I need !

If anyone would like to see the effect the site is at www.bmyo.org.uk and if you look at the two photograph gallery links down the menu at right.

AND !!!

Another thing which helps is to specify your picture size in Picfture Properties once your large images are listed on your webpage. This stops a horrible "jump" when it is dispalying in iPad as it first tries to work out what sizes the pictures are !
For me they were all 480 wide by 360 high as they had been sized for Simple Viewer.

Re: Non flash version?

The second gallery works because you have all your images listed using <img> tags within the 'flashcontent' div (in photographgallery20092010.html).

However, the entire 'flashcontent' div for the first gallery (photogallery.html) is:

<div id="flashcontent">SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player.
<a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Flash.</a></div>

... which is why only the message appears if Flash is not detected.

Re: Non flash version?

Thanks Steven,

I knew it was something stupid that I couldnt spot !
It was actually a different file which for some reason I had renamed. So the correct one was sitting there all along !

Thank you so much for spotting it though.

I have changed my contribution to leave it just with the website reference so people can look at the effect of the gallery as someone might actually find it quite useful.
