Topic: A picture is worth a thousand words

So why do you limit the caption length that can be displayed? 

Call it a description and allow a text pane with scroll bar.

SimpleViewer does not support scrolling text, however you can increase the size of the caption area to allow for larger captions.

Check out the SimpleViewer 2 caption setting, try captionWidth and captionHeight.
