Topic: Can't get URL Links to work

Hello,
I just purchase Simple Viewer and it seems to work great but for one issue.

http://www.humanities.uci.edu/global_cu … index2.php

The user needs to be able to click on the image and have it go to a separate URL.  Nothing seems to happen when I click on the images except that it goes to the next image.  Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Set imageClickMode to OPEN_URL.

imageClickMode      NAVIGATE

Determines what happens when the user clicks on an image. Can be:

    * NAVIGATE - Enables Next/Back image navigation via Image Navigation Arrows.
    * OPEN_URL - Enables left click image to open a URL. Opens optional ‘linkURL’ + linkTarget’ in image tags, or defaults to imageURL. Setting this to true disables image navigation.

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Hi, love Simpleviewer Pro to bits and it's making a huge difference on my websites!

However, I set ImageClick to OPEN_URL and while the hyperlinks from the main images work, the main images without links just open a new page with "The requested URL /images/divine.jpg was not found on this server.".

This says to me that the unlinked images are not defaulting to imageURL. Any idea on what I am missing?

Here's a sample bit of code:

-----------------------------------

<simpleviewergallery title=""
    imageClickMode="OPEN_URL"

>

<image>
    <filename>greyspot.jpg</filename>
    <caption/>
  </image>
      <image imageURL="images/s_web.jpg" thumbURL="thumbs/s_web.jpg" linkURL="http://www.urlhere.com" linkTarget="_blank">
<caption/>
</image>

-----------------------------------

I want greyspot.jpg when clicked, not to show anything but the next image.

Please help!

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

What's the gallery URL?

There is no greyspot.jpg, that was just a sample. But you'll notice that the websites link as per instructed but the other graphics are going to a Not Found page.

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Try changing  your embed code from:

<object style="width: 582px; height: 403px;" width="582" height="403" data="/svgallery/simpleviewer.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash">
<param name="base" value="http://www.inkfluence.com.au/svgallery/index.html" />
<param name="flashvars" value="http://www.inkfluence.com.au/svgallery/gallery.xml" />
<param name="src" value="/svgallery/simpleviewer.swf" />
<param name="bgcolor" value="000000" />
</object>

To:

<object width="582" height="403" data="/svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=gallery.xml">
        <param name="movie" value="/svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=gallery.xml"></param>
        <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
        <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
        <param name="baseURL" value="svgallery/"></param>
    <param name="bgcolor" value="000000"></param>
</object>

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

I have done that, now I get "Gallery xml not found" at:

http://www.inkfluence.com.au/index.php? … ;Itemid=57

I tried putting in more specific absolute paths etc, which made no difference........

I double checked html code was not changed in Joomla (by selecting "No Editor" in Global Config)

So the code you gave me is exactly what is in that page at present:

<object width="582" height="403" data="/svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=gallery.xml">
        <param name="movie" value="/svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=gallery.xml"></param>
        <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
        <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
        <param name="baseURL" value="svgallery/"></param>
    <param name="bgcolor" value="000000"></param>
</object>

Any more ideas?

I still think that there is a problem with Joomla regarding defaulting to the next image.

Maybe there is a way to specify going to the next image in the gallery.xml links for all those main images that are supposed to be defaulting to the next image? Can you put it in manually?

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Looks like the baseURL isn't working, try changing the embed code to this and then change your gallery.xml path.

<object width="582" height="403" data="svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=svgallery/gallery.xml">
        <param name="movie" value="svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=svgallery/gallery.xml"></param>
        <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
        <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
        <param name="bgcolor" value="000000"></param>
</object>

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Hi Mike,

I've done both of those things and now it comes up with a blank box, see URL:

http://www.inkfluence.com.au/index.php? … ;Itemid=57

bit of a head scratcher....

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Update your embed code to remove the / before /svgallery/simpleviewer.swf you also should update your gallery.xml so it uses the new format

<image imageURL="svgallery/images/e_web.jpg" thumbURL="thumbs/e_web.jpg" linkURL="http://www.essendongemclub.asn.au" linkTarget="_blank" >
<caption/>
</image>

Instead of the old format

    <image>
    <filename>granny.jpg</filename>
    <caption/>
  </image>

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Hi Mike,

I updated all the gallery xml items as requested. Eg:

<image imageURL="svgallery/images/boxad.jpg" thumbURL="svgallery/thumbs/boxad.jpg" linkURL="" linkTarget="" >
<image imageURL="svgallery/images/photo1.jpg" thumbURL="svgallery/thumbs/photo1.jpg" linkURL="" linkTarget="" >
<image imageURL="svgallery/images/yarragon.jpg" thumbURL="svgallery/thumbs/yarragon.jpg" linkURL="" linkTarget="" >

I couldn't see anywhere to remove the / before /svgallery in my embed code, which is:

<object width="582" height="403" data="svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=svgallery/gallery.xml">
        <param name="movie" value="svgallery/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=svgallery/gallery.xml"></param>
        <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param>
        <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param>
        <param name="bgcolor" value="000000"></param>
</object>

Now, the live gallery is showing "Cannot Parse Gallery xml"

Surely we must be on our way to the final outcome!

Any ideas?

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Hi again Mike,

Just updated my code so it's more like this in the gallery.xml:

<image imageURL="svgallery/images/a_brochures.jpg" thumbURL="svgallery/thumbs/a_brochures.jpg" linkURL="" linkTarget="_parent" ><caption/>
</image>
  <image imageURL="svgallery/images/divine.jpg" thumbURL="svgallery/thumbs/divine.jpg" linkURL="" linkTarget="" ><caption/>
</image>
  <image imageURL="svgallery/images/remax.jpg" thumbURL="svgallery/thumbs/remax.jpg" linkURL="" linkTarget="" ><caption/>
</image>

Now it all appears OK, however the images that are not linked to URLS are opening up in a new window, instead of just going to the next image.

Also my gallery.xml in the browser looks a bit messy at: http://www.inkfluence.com.au/svgallery/gallery.xml

Much appreciate your help this far. Is there anything else we can do to get it working?

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

Hi Mike,

Upon further investigation, it appears as though Joomla 1.5 is adding an extra / into the code. I had a good 2 hour hunt with Google but nothing helpful evolved. It appears as though we can't change the extra /.

In Joomla, my html embed code looks just fine, even after saving - but it is producing the extra / on the final page.

Is there any other way we can write the embed code to reference the gallery.xml - eg an absolute path or something?

Cheers,

Suz

Re: Can't get URL Links to work

The gallery seems to be working now I wouldn't worry about it.
