Topic: index.html not working with .xml or .swf?

Hi there,

I'm very new to html code (just learning as I go along...), but I've come across a problem I can't seem to fix.  I've checked this forum and found topics somewhat related, but to no help.

Here's my website...
http://www.stephaniesomers.com/gallery.html

I've created my website with a program called SiteSpinner and was able to embed my SimpleViewer gallery into my website just fine, but not everything works, and I've figured out that somehow the .xml or .swf files aren't connecting with the index.html.  The fullscreen button isn't working and I've been trying to set the background as transparent (or anything but black).  When I edit the index page locally and test it, it works just fine.  The files are all uploaded to my site on the parent directory, but maybe that's wrong?

I tried using the embed information located on the SimpleViewer site, but had no idea what page it was supposed to go on...my gallery.html page?  Since I already had it embedded through SiteSpinner, I thought it was unnecessary.

Is there anymore information I can give?  If you need the code for my gallery.html, index.html or .xml pages, please let me know.  Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: index.html not working with .xml or .swf?

Did you fix the page? It is working for me in Windows 7 Chrome, IE8 and Firefox. If you are still having issues what OS/Browser are you having trouble with? Also after making changes to your page to try and fix the code remember to clear your browser's cache.

Re: index.html not working with .xml or .swf?

I haven't done anything to the page today.  I cleared the browser cache for Firefox and IE, nothing changed.  The gallery background is still black and the fullscreen button still isn't working in either browser.  I'm running Windows XP if that helps.

From your screen, what color is the gallery's background?  And does the fullscreen button work?

Thanks.

Re: index.html not working with .xml or .swf?

For transparency add wmode set to transparent and add <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"/>  and <embed src="./media/simpleviewer.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"  pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" quality="best" play="true" loop="false" menu="false" allowfullscreen="true" width="710" height="451"> to your embed code.

    <param name="menu" value="false"/>

PERFECT! Thank you!  big_smile

Re: index.html not working with .xml or .swf?

new question...I've created a second gallery...

First gallery: http://www.stephaniesomers.com/etchingsgallery.html
Second gallery: http://www.stephaniesomers.com/mezzotintsgallery.html

As you can see when you click on the second link, that it keeps linking back to the first gallery...I've checked other forums on this topic, but I don't have the xmlDataPath to replace with flashvars.galleryURL = "myGallery.xml".  I tried changing all the names of my second gallery, and within the code (I added a "2" behind every name), but it's not working.  Can you tell me what code I need to add to my "mezzotintsgallery.html" page?

Thank you again!! You've been a HUGE help!

Re: index.html not working with .xml or .swf?

flashvars.galleryURL = "myGallery.xml" is for the SWFObject embed method which is technically better supported by browsers. For the Object Embed method, which is what you are using, try the following.

Change the name of your mezzotints gallery.xml to something like mezzotintsgallery.xml and then use add the following, ?galleryURL=mezzotintsgallery.xml, after the two places you find simplevewer.swf in your embed code.

<object id="Igeo93"
    classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"
    codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=4,0,2,0", width="710" height="501">
    <param name="movie" value="./media/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=mezzotintsgallery.xml"/>
    <param name="quality" value="best"/>
    <param name="play" value="true"/>
    <param name="loop" value="false"/>
    <param name="menu" value="false"/>
    <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"/>
    <param name="wmode" value="transparent"/>
    <embed src="./media/simpleviewer.swf?galleryURL=mezzotintsgallery.xml" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
 pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"
    quality="best" play="true" loop="false" menu="false" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" width="710" height="501">
</embed></object>
