Topic: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

Can someone please clarify what his step is referring to, and please outline what I need to do.  Thank you

Copy the entire contents of your SimpleViewer gallery folder into the folder that contains your HTML page.

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

Copy the entire contents of your SimpleViewer gallery folder into the folder that contains your HTML page (including the swfobject.js file and sub-folders).

This step is Step 2 of the 'Embedding SimpleViewer v1.9 in an HTML Page' instructions which can be found here:
http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … /embedded/

The entire contents of a standard SimpleViewer gallery folder (nothing renamed) consist of:
index.html (HTML file into which gallery is embedded)
gallery.xml (XML file detailing gallery settings and images to be displayed)
swfobject.js (JavaScript file used for embedding the swf file)
viewer.swf (Flash viewer file)
thumbs (folder containing thumbnail images)
images (folder containing main images)

All these items should be placed alongside (ie in the same folder as) the HTML page into which you intend to embed the gallery. (In the standard gallery folder, the HTML page into which the gallery is embedded is index.html. If you intend to embed the gallery into a different HTML page, then there is no need to copy the file index.html.)

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

Hi, I have another question here, for the contents of the folder, I have everything except the swfobject.js.

The contents of the folder I have:
images subfolder
thumbnail subfolder
index.html
readme. html
simpleviewer.swf

Another question is: after I uploaded all the contents of the folder to ftp server, I can view the gallery in a browser with the address start with "ftp://", but how could I embed this to a blog to share the gallery?? (Sorry for a silly question, am a new-newbie to this field).

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

Whether or not your gallery needs the 'swfobject.js' file depends on your method of embedding the SWF file in your page.

If you have already uploaded a gallery and can view it in a browser by opening the gallery's HTML index page via a URL such as http://www.example.com/gallery/index.html then perhaps the easiest way to include this gallery in a blog entry would be to use an <iframe>. The code you would add to your blog entry would look something like:

<iframe src="http://www.example.com/gallery/index.html" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

Hi Steven,

The URL allows me to view is ==> ftp://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/myfoldername/index.html
When I add the URL into <iframe> code, it doesn't work.

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

FTP is for file transfer only.  You should be using HTTP for viewing a web page, ie:
http://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/myfoldername/index.html

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

I get what you mean now, so, what procedures should I take to make it to be viewed in HTTP web page?

All I know about is, generate the simpleviewer photo gallery, then upload those contents to ftp server. After uploading it, I lost my way, and have no idea how to make it to be viewed in HTTP web page.

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

After uploading the gallery, you can view it by typing (or copying and pasting) the URL for the gallery's HTML index page into the browser's address bar, eg. http://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/myfoldername/index.html
If embedding the gallery into another web page alongside other content by using an <iframe>, then the code you'd insert into the existing page would be:

<iframe src="http://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/myfoldername/index.html" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

ftp://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/myfoldername/index.html, I change it to http://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/myfoldername/index.html, the gallery won't show in the browser.

or

do you mean, after uploading the contents, then open the index.html file that has been uploaded to ftp? If so, the gallery won't show as well.

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

Please post a URL to the gallery so that we can take a look.
There are a multitude of possible reasons for a gallery to not be displayed.
Seeing the gallery, we should be able to pinpoint the reason and suggest a solution.
In the meantime, perhaps one of the FAQs might sound familiar to your scenario and help: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … 9/faq.html

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

That is not a publicly-accessible URL.
192.168.2.102 is the IP address assigned by your router for your own computer.

Have you uploaded the gallery to a web host?
If so, you will have a domain name (either one that you have purchased or, perhaps, a subdomain of your host, eg. yourname.yourhost.com).
This will form the first part of the gallery's URL.
If you have uploaded your gallery folder (in this example named 'galleryfolder') to the root of your web space (perhaps into a folder on the web server named 'public_html' where all your uploads should go) then the gallery folder's name will form the next part of the address.
The 'index.html' file finishes off the URL to give something like: http://yourname.yourhost.com/galleryfolder/index.html

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

ok, I've uploaded them to a web host now. The web host is able to generate embedded code, below is the result when I paste the embedded code in my post:

http://quentina-chan.tumblr.com/post/53 … to-gallery

The first one is the index.html file with embedded code:
<embed src="http://www.box.net/embed/hh36nl11bt2788g.swf" width="466" height="400" wmode="opaque" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always">

The second one is the .swf file with embedded code:
<embed src="http://www.box.net/embed/x83pxko93e2vlbz.swf" width="466" height="400" wmode="opaque" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always">

Re: Newbie quesion? I dont understand a step for Embedding

You cannot use 'box.net' as a host for web page files.
It is a file storage service which serves up all files uploaded there to browsers as downloads.
If you do not have any regular web space, then I believe you may be able to use Dropbox to store your files and include them in web pages.
However, there are many hosts which provide free regular web space that would be suitable to host a SimpleViewer gallery (do a web search for 'free web hosts').
Free accounts generally have limitations which may be lifted when purchasing a premium account but a free account should be enough to get you started.
