Topic: 2 Problems with Firefox and Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 standalone+ Wordpress

Hi all,
I recently bought Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 and tried to set up a gallery in wordpress as well as a gallery on its own, both seem to be somehow corrupted in Firefox. I've searched this forum for solutions but nothing lead to success, so here is the problem description:

1. http://www.sms-photo.de/portfolio/ is a "standalone simpleviewer gallery" and seems to work fine in Firefox 3.5.13 but on another machine with Firefox 3.6.12, it will only load the mobile version of the gallery. That is also true for the gallery as generated by the svBuilder-Pro 2.1 without any modification.

2. http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/welcome/ for which the 2.0.5 wordpress-simpleviewer plugin is used works fine in Chrome and Internetexplorer 8 but doesn't show anything in Firefox 3.5.13 or 3.6.12, so I thought I should put a div tag around it and assign a height of 100%.
But that will actually break everything as it will now show the famous sentence for each of the browsers: "SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player. Get Flash."
You can see the "<div height='100%'>" version here: http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/galerie/

Hope you can help me.
Thanks
Stefan

Re: 2 Problems with Firefox and Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 standalone+ Wordpress

Both your links display the corresponding Flash galleries in Firefox 3.6.12 on my PC.
Firefox requires a different Adobe Flash Player installation than Internet Explorer.
It sounds like you do not have Flash Player installed in Firefox.  For you, the first gallery shows the mobile version (which implies Flash Player cannot be detected) and the second gallery shows nothing (because the WP-SimpleViewer WordPress plugin uses SimpleViewer v2.0.3 which does not have a mobile fallback).
Open the following link in your Firefox browser to determine if Flash player is installed, and if so, what version.

1. http://www.sms-photo.de/portfolio/ is a "standalone simpleviewer gallery" and seems to work fine in Firefox 3.5.13 but on another machine with Firefox 3.6.12, it will only load the mobile version of the gallery. That is also true for the gallery as generated by the svBuilder-Pro 2.1 without any modification.

If you remove the CSS from the following div and clear your browser's cache does it work in that firefox browser that was having the issue?

<div style="margin:0; width:914px; height:777px; border:none;
    /* Jetzt wird sie zentriert. */
    position:    absolute;
    top:        0;
    left:        50%;
    /* Jetzt steht die linke obere Ecke genau am Mittelpunkt. Noch. */
    margin-top:    10px;  /* == halbe Zeilenhöhe. */
    margin-left:    -457px; /* == halbe Breite.     */
    ">

2. http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/welcome/ for which the 2.0.5 wordpress-simpleviewer plugin is used works fine in Chrome and Internetexplorer 8 but doesn't show anything in Firefox 3.5.13 or 3.6.12, so I thought I should put a div tag around it and assign a height of 100%.

Try fixing these HTML errors.
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1 … g/welcome/
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1 … g/galerie/

<div height="100%>

One of the issue here is you are missing a quotation mark and you should be using CSS to the height or width of a div.

Also if you are using the SWFObject embed method the following belongs in the head of your HTML.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/swfobject/2.2/swfobject.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.galleryURL = "http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/wp-content/uploads/5.xml";
var params = {};
params.bgcolor = "7C0B0B";
params.allowfullscreen = true;
params.allowscriptaccess = "always";
swfobject.embedSWF("http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/wp-content/plugins/wp-simpleviewer/web/simpleviewer.swf", "flashContent5", "800", "333", "9.0.124", false, flashvars, params);
</script>

Once these problems are fixed we can take another look if you are still having issues. Remember to clear your browser's cache after making the change.

Re: 2 Problems with Firefox and Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 standalone+ Wordpress

Thanks Steven and Mike for your the quick responses.

I could partly solve the problem - (for the portfolio + gallery page):
1. It seems that you're right concerning the missing flash plugin for FF 3.6.12, I have to verify that, I thought it will use the same as every other browser on my machine. So I will try once I managed to install the FF-Flash version.

2. Concerning the wordpress problem, it still exists for www.sms-photo.de/wedding/welcome/ .
BUT it is gone for www.sms-photo.de/wedding/galerie, after inserting the <script> stuff into my wordpress themes header and using <div style="width:100%"> [simpleviewer ...]</div> the page works fine now.

I was not aware that the simpleviewer wordpress plugin uses another method to display the gallery then the standalone version. And I still wonder why other browsers can live without the <script> definition in the header, even other versions of firefox seem to live with it without any problem.

However http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/welcome/seems to still have a problem to display the simpleviewer gallery. Although I copied and pasted the exact same code I used for the now working galerie-page. Here are the pro options, maybe FF has a problem with anyone of those:

flickrImageCount="150"

I am talking about Firefox 3.5.14. (Flash is installed as the portfolio page works just fine)

Re: 2 Problems with Firefox and Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 standalone+ Wordpress

Your Flash gallery (set up as a slideshow) at http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/welcome/ still looks OK to me in Firefox and IE8.  Check the Flash installation in Firefox if nothing is being displayed.

Re: 2 Problems with Firefox and Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 standalone+ Wordpress

Hi again,
I've got the issues fixed now for FF3.6.12 and partly for FF3.5.13.
In 3.5.13 everything works except the welcome page http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/ what is somehow strange to me.

But I could only reproduce it with this specific FF version, so I rather guess it is a problem on my end.

So thanks for your excellent and quick support!

Re: 2 Problems with Firefox and Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 standalone+ Wordpress

Hi Guys,

unfortunately I have recognized that lots of users of my webpage still use FF 3.5.13 and they still cannot see the Simple viewer gallery. So I would be really interested in a solution here.
Please see page: http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding as an example. With FF 3.6.12 everything is working as expected. But 3.5.13 simply doesn't show anything, no error message, no flash-version warning or similar. Hope you can help.

See is this FAQ helps: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … trouble_12
Also, you should fix the HTML errors on your page. You have very few so they shouldn't take long to fix.  They do look to be fairly trivial but when the page validates, you are more likely to have the page displayed with greater consistency between different browsers and we can eliminate HTML errors as the cause of your problem.

Re: 2 Problems with Firefox and Simpleviewer Pro 2.1 standalone+ Wordpress

I think I've just remembered something that might help...
Try moving your embedding code to after the <div> into which you are embedding the gallery.
ie. change:

<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.galleryURL = "http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/wp-content/uploads/3.xml";
var params = {};
params.bgcolor = "7C0B0B";
params.allowfullscreen = true;
params.allowscriptaccess = "always";
swfobject.embedSWF("http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/wp-content/plugins/wp-simpleviewer/web/simpleviewer.swf", "flashContent3", "800", "333", "9.0.124", false, flashvars, params);
</script>

<div id="flashContent3" style="width:800px;height:333px">SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player.
<a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Flash.</a></div>

... to:

<div id="flashContent3" style="width:800px;height:333px">SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player.
<a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Flash.</a></div>

<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.galleryURL = "http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/wp-content/uploads/3.xml";
var params = {};
params.bgcolor = "7C0B0B";
params.allowfullscreen = true;
params.allowscriptaccess = "always";
swfobject.embedSWF("http://www.sms-photo.de/wedding/wp-content/plugins/wp-simpleviewer/web/simpleviewer.swf", "flashContent3", "800", "333", "9.0.124", false, flashvars, params);
</script>
