Topic: SV not showing without Flash

I posted a page http://www.djphoto.com/location/location.html and it is working with Flash, however does not show correctly in browser without Flash. I do have the box checked in svBuilder Pro to "mobile show nav". Under "embed options" I have "use Flash" checked so it will use it when Flash is present. What am I  doing wrong? I need it to also show in browsers without Flash (ie. iPad). Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Re: SV not showing without Flash

You are embedding only the swf file using <object> <embed> tags.
In order for the gallery to have the HTML fallback for mobile devices (and browsers that do not have Flash Player installed) you will need to use the embedding method found here: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … html#embed (SimpleViewer v2.1.1 required).

Re: SV not showing without Flash

Thanks Steve. I tried doing what you said and although the site (http://www.djphoto.com/location/test_location.html) now shows in a non-flash environment the images do not resize when seen in Flash, as it did before. To compare to the before visit this link: http://www.djphoto.com/location/location.html.

Any idea what I messed up to stop the image resizing in Flash? I am having a difficult time figuring it out. Thanks again!

Re: SV not showing without Flash

It looks like you are using some CSS code from an older version of SimpleViewer.
I believe the resizing issue is due to the 'height: 100%;' entry in the 'body' CSS section.  Remove this and the images should resize dynamically as before.
You also have several closing tags which have no corresponding opening tags (2 x </object>, 1 x </div>, 1 x </tr>, 1 x </td>) and should be removed.
You can check the HTML errors here.

Re: SV not showing without Flash

I cleaned up the changes you suggested and the Flash resizing is working when the browser window is reduced horizontally, but if I shrink the window vertically it does not. You are correct- I did have an older version of SimpleViewer on here previously and perhaps there are remnants that no longer should remain. Please look at the code and see if you see any SV code that should/can be deleted that may be causing the Flash to only resize in one direction. Thank you!

Re: SV not showing without Flash

You still have 'height: 100%;' in the body CSS (line 46) of your 'test-location.html' file.
My testing shows that if you remove this, the images will be resized in both dimensions (both vertically and horizontally).

You could probably get away with removing some more of the old CSS but it will do no harm keeping it there as it deals with margins, padding and overflow (scroll-bars).

Your escaped '&' in the <title> should be &amp; rather than &amp (note the trailing semi-colon).

Re: SV not showing without Flash

Thanks for your persistence in helping to get this to work. I removed the 'height 100%' in line 46 (http://www.djphoto.com/location/test_location2.html) and although it does fix the vertical scaling it causes other issues. If you compare the updated link referenced here with the original from the previous SV  (http://www.djphoto.com/location/location.html) you will see that the page now has a long scroll bar and the image scaling can only be done to a smaller degree.

The new SV is a great remedy for the absence of Flash on iPads and I know once the code glitch on this page gets resolved the other portfolio pages will sail along easily.

Also, thanks for catching the ampersand.

Re: SV not showing without Flash

Try removing the 'flashcontent' <div> (not the contents, just the opening and closing <div> tags and the corresponding CSS) and use the following line in your embedding code:

SV.simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "85%", "000000", true );

... ie. changing the height from 100% to 85% (the previous height of the 'flashcontent' div).

Re: SV not showing without Flash

Wow, huge help! That seems to of done it, thanks!

Re: SV not showing without Flash

Steven- I have just one last question. When using the previous version of SV, my Nav menu would cascade down over the Flash images, but now it causes the images to just go away entirely (in IE8 and Chrome- FF is fine). Is this the cause of one of the transparent or opaque settings that need changing?

Re: SV not showing without Flash

Yes.  See here: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … ml#embed_5
... and use:

SV.simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "85%", "transparent", true );
