Topic: Background not visible in Safari

Hi!

My background image was previously visible in Safari but now just shows a grey box. The background image appears as normal on Opera and on my mobile, just not on Safari.

The image is fine on my host, but this morning I noticed an error message of crossdomain.xml not found. I created the file as per instructions I found on the site and it looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0"?><!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policySYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cros … policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="www.phototrophe.com" />
</cross-domain-policy>

Here is one of the gallery pages that shows the background with just grey in Safari:

Help please! I'm getting some press and want it to look right! Thanks!!!

Re: Background not visible in Safari

Try changing your backgroundURL by removing the www. also you should fix your HTML errors.

From:

backgroundURL="http://www.phototrophe.com/images/gallery-background.jpg"

To:

backgroundURL="http://phototrophe.com/images/gallery-background.jpg"

Re: Background not visible in Safari

Thank you, that seems to have done the trick! Also thanks for the heads up on the html errors, I should've seen those  roll

Re: Background not visible in Safari

The background image is acting unstable again. One minute it will be there looking normal and five minutes later it's back to the grey box. Changing the url seem fixed it temporarily. Any thoughts?

Re: Background not visible in Safari

Did you clear you browser's cache after making the change?

Re: Background not visible in Safari

I did clear the cache. There are two galleries that the background won't change on and it looks like they are still the grey box in Opera as well. It seems to go back and forth about whether things work or not.

These don't work:
http://www.phototrophe.com/Photography/ … ching.html
http://www.phototrophe.com/Photography/ … space.html

but this one (and four others) do:
http://www.phototrophe.com/Photography/ … raphy.html

I have a preset that I save them as in the sv builder so can't figure out what is going wrong since they should all be the same!  hmm

Re: Background not visible in Safari

The first two links work if you drop the www so that it matches the backgroundURL if you want to us the crossdomain XML use the following as your crossdomain.xml and copy it into each gallery folder.

<?xml version="1.0"?><!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policySYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>

<allow-access-from domain="www.phototrophe.com" />

<allow-access-from domain="phototrophe.com" />

</cross-domain-policy>

Re: Background not visible in Safari

Is there somewhere else that I need to change this besides the gallery.xml file? On my server the gallery.xml file is written without the www but when I look on the activity page in my browser it still has the www on it.

Thank you for the crossdomain tip!

Re: Background not visible in Safari

If you don't use the crossdomain XML it depends how people are linking to it. You either need to only use the www subdomian or not use it for both linking and your setting in your gallery.xml or you need to setup the crossdomain XML.

Re: Background not visible in Safari

Mike- thank you for your help!

I added the crossdomain files to all of my galleries and can see them on my server. For some reason they aren't visible in my browsers activity window and the grey background is still a problem  sad  I reset my browser and am able to see changes I've made to other files on my server. Maybe there is a random lag occurring?

I also managed to revert one of the files that was working back to the grey box by fooling around with it trying to get the other ones to work:
http://www.phototrophe.com/Photography/ … cture.html

Maybe there is a problem with how they are embedded? I'm very lost at this point about why some work and others don't and why the files that are on my server don't show up on my site while others I add do.

Re: Background not visible in Safari

Ok, I think I may have figured it out. I changed the crossdomain.xml file in my root directory to be the same as the one that you wrote and the background shows now.

Thanks for the help!
