Topic: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Help! I've just upgraded our plugin automatically (via WP dashboard) and our galleries are now offset from the content - see http://toursandtales.com/nemo33-diving- … um-bubbles

Thanks for your speedy assistance.  Kind regards, Victoria

ps. the automatic update has also overwritten our Simpleviewer Pro files, so the link is showing again. Perhaps you could ignore this in future updates? Or something along those lines.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

I've resorted back to version 2.0.5 and it's working fine again. You can see this printscreen to get an idea of what the new version was doing i.e. transparent background, and offset out of the content and into the side menus

This is what it should look like: http://toursandtales.com/cognac-bbqs-an … ring-tents

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

There is a bug in WP-SimpleViewer v2.1.2 whereby the gallery's width must be specified as an absolute pixel value rather than as a percentage.
This will be fixed in the next version.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll wait for the new version  big_smile

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

I am glad that I have come across this post.  I had the similar problem.  Now I can stop wasting my time on troubleshooting and just wait for the new version.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

As previously posted, I love Simpleviewer and have been using it for years.  I recently built a new photosite based on Wordpress and once again have decided to use Simpleviewer.

I've been really dissapointed that there hasn't been support for mobile devices and was really pleased when 2.1.2 came out.  Like a number of others, I quickly spotted the problem of the content being offset from the gallery.  Whilst there is a workaround, I already have hundreds of posts and it would take ages to fix all of them...

Therefore I hope an updated version will be out quickly with a proper fix.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Hi, is there any news yet about when a new version will be release which includes a fix for the problem of the gallery being offset from the content.  It's very fustrating have a website which doesn't work on mobile devices?!?!?!?

Thanks

Adam

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

New version will be out in the next 2 weeks. For now the work around is to give the gallery a fixed width (not a percentage).

it's been two weeks now.
Any update in sight??

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Until the WP-SimpleViewer WordPress Plugin is updated, you could try replacing the 'svcore' folder located at 'wp-content/plugins/wp-simpleviewer/svcore/' with the latest 'svcore' folder (v2.1.3) from the current SimpleViewer download package from the link on this page ('simpleviewer_213/web/svcore/').

Hi - this is exactly what happened to me - my galleries are offset from the content, just like marvicbiz's screenshot. I upgraded via wordpress to 2.1.3. Is the fix coming? Thanks!

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

The current version of WP-SimpleViewer is v2.1.3 and the bug that was present in v2.1.2 (see above) has been fixed.
The latest version of WP-SimpleViewer can be downloaded from this page: http://www.simpleviewer.net/simpleviewe … pleviewer/
If you have upgraded to this version, try clearing your browser's cache before reloading the gallery.
If you continue to experience difficulties, please post a URL to your gallery so that we can take a look.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Hi Stephen, thanks for the reply. The plugin says 2.1.3 in Wordpress, and I'm in Wordpress 3.1.3. I tried clearing my cache, but it still offsets the galleries: http://www.michaelchybowski.com/?page_id=149 is an example, but every gallery does it. I've tried it in both Safari and Firefox.

Thanks again for taking a look, Rick

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Your page has HTML errors and CSS errors which should be fixed and your page also has no line breaks after line 29 half-way through the <head> section so it is very hard to read the source code on the page to figure out what is causing the gallery shift (which changes with the size of the browser window).
You can check your page for HTML errors with the W3C Markup Validation Service and for CSS errors with the W3C CSS Validation Service.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Huh, well... I'm not sure what to do I guess. I just did a clean install of WP and the Atahualpa theme here: http://www.rickpm.com/test/cleanwp/?page_id=2 and it comes out with many errors, but the gallery does insert correctly, so I guess that there's just a problem with the theme in some way.

For what it's worth, it seems to be related to Simpleviewer's dynamic resizing. I just changed the gallery width to 100% in the clean install above, and the gallery immediately jumped to the right. At the real site, changing the width to a pixel amount that is smaller than the available screen real estate solves it, but then of course it looks terrible on mobile devices.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

I have now tried this myself and have found a similar scenario.
I installed WordPress v3.1.3, Atahulapa Theme v3.6.7 and WP-SimpleViewer v2.1.3 and created a gallery with 100% width.
The gallery is offset to the right.
However, on activating the default Twenty-Ten theme, the gallery is positioned correctly so it seems to be related to the Atahualpa theme.
When using the Atahualpa theme, the WordPress page displaying the gallery loses all line breaks about half way through the <head> section (view source to see) and validating the page shows that there is a closing </div> tag missing.
Workarounds would be to either use a different theme or to give the gallery an absolute pixel value width rather than a percentage.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Thanks again Steven, that's exactly the result I'm getting. I just restored the site back to earlier versions of everything and it works again (http://www.michaelchybowski.com/?page_id=149) - just no universal access. I guess I either need to update things one by one, or just leave it as is. Really it's the simpleviewer only that I wanted to update for iphone compatibility, so hopefully that will work. I did post the question at the Atahualpa site though, to see if they have any thoughts on it.

Warmly,
Rick

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

There is no automated procedure for converting galleries created with older versions of WP-SimpleViewer (that do not feature Universal Playback) to v2.1.3 (which does include Mobile functionality).
As you suggest, you may need to update your galleries one by one, either with the new version of WP-SimpleViewer or by creating the galleries with svBuilder, uploading the galleries to your web server and embedding them in your posts using one of these 2 embedding methods.

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Going back to my clean install, which is what I referred to in the Atahualpa forum.  One of the moderators refer to this piece of code, that is generating a width of 1207 pixels, and I guess he's suggesting that it's SimpleViewer that's generating it by mistake? This is truly beyond my abilities, but I thought I'd report back to you in case it's of any interest.

Edit - I just deleted the two "width: 1207px" references using Firebug and it solves everything. so...

<object id="svcp-0-sv-mobile-flash-swf" width="100%" height="600" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.rickpm.com/test/cleanwp/wp-content/plugins/wp-simpleviewer/svcore/swf/simpleviewer.swf" style="visibility: visible; width: 1207px; height: 600px;">
<param name="allowfullscreen" value="true">
<param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always">
<param name="wmode" value="transparent">
<param name="bgcolor" value="#222222">
<param name="flashvars" value="galleryURL=http://www.rickpm.com/test/cleanwp/wp-content/uploads/1.xml&embedurl=http://www.rickpm.com/test/cleanwp/?page_id=2">
</object>

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Did you try setting the galleryWidth option in the SimpleViewer gallery options?

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Yes, the gallery width is set to 100%. If I set it to a fixed width, it does work, but since the theme is dynamic, it creates many problems to have a fixed width gallery in a resizable area. I've tried literally 50 different settings to get it to work well, but it seems that what I want is a gallery that resizes by width and is a fixed height. But this should be possible I think?

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

You may need to settle for a fixed width gallery. If you are using percentage dimensions you may need to set the gallery's parent div width using inline CSS. Check the 'Using Percentage Height' section here: http://www.simpleviewer.net/simpleviewe … html#embed

Re: Wordpress plugin v2.1.2 updated - gallery offset from content

Thanks Felix, I guess either WP and/or SV or the Atahualpa theme don't do what they used to in previous versions. This function: http://www.michaelchybowski.com/?page_id=149 is what I'm trying to keep with the center area of Wordpress and SimpleViewer resizing with the browser window. For me it's a lost function, but it must be some improvement that I don't understand.

I did what you suggested on the test site http://www.rickpm.com/test/cleanwp/?page_id=2 and posted this:

<div id="sv-container" style="width:60%">[simpleviewer gallery_id="1"]</div>

in the Page to add the SV gallery, and it sort of works, but the justification is weird.

Thanks again for trying to sort it out for me - at this point, I think I'm going to stick with what works, and not worry about mobile compatibility.
Rick
