The source code was available in SimpleViewer v1.x in order for users to access the Pro Options (though it also allowed those with a knowledge of ActionScript to alter the functionality of SimpleViewer).
In order to configure a Pro Option, the user would have had to:
Have Adobe Flash installed (software not everyone has access to)
Edit the appropriate source file in a text editor
Publish a new customized SWF file
Swap the gallery's SWF file for the new version
With SimpleViewer v2.x, in order to use a Pro option, the user needs only to select it via the interface in svBuilder-Pro.
The decision to make all Pro Options configurable via XML makes customizing a gallery much quicker and more convenient, without the need to change the SWF file each time a Pro Option is changed.
