Topic: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

Hi guys, this gallery is set to 90% and as you can see, it does't reach the right edge of the page and yet the nav strip (a table) at botom is stretched out: http://nzphotos2u.com/sport.html.

It should look like this: http://nzphotos2u.com/about.html.

The other problem I'm having is I can't get the open boxes to stop showing on this gallery: http://nzphotos2u.com/landscape.html. I've un-checked them in the SV builder and they are showing as "false" in the xml file.

This happens quite a bit and up till now I've recreated the galleries to get around it but is there a better way?

Thanks in advance for advice,
Jo

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

Try giving the SimpleViewer gallery dimensions of 100% x 100% and then specifically giving the <td> into which SimpleViewer is embedded the width you'd like the gallery to be, eg:

<td style="width: 800px;">

There are also a few HTML errors on the page which should be fixed.
You can validate your page using the W3C Markup Validation Service: http://validator.w3.org/

The button bar (including the 'Open Image in New Window' button) is not visible in the landscape gallery.
Try clearing your browser's cache before reloading the gallery.

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

Thanks Steven, this worked nicely for all galleries except those within the Commercial tabbed group.
The first tab, Tatler Prime, is fine but the second tab, Matua, is crunched up and the third tab, Models, is still stretched out.

As I've had to treat tabbed galleries differnently elsehwhere, do I need to do something different here?
Jo

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

At the end of the second tab section, you have a <td style="width: 800px"> tag which looks like it should be a closing </td> tag instead.
Also, your first and second tabs are each in individual tables but the third tab is not.
For consistency, they should all be similar.
With regard to the differing widths, try duplicating the width in both the gallery dimensions (in the embedding code) and the CSS for the <td> tags.

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

Hi Steven,
As soon as I enter the <td style="width: 800px;"> it turns the gallery into a mess like this: http://nzphotos2u.com/commercial3.html

When I remove those tags the gallery works but is still stretched across the screen like this: http://nzphotos2u.com/commercial.html

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

It looks like you have not yet tried my suggestion of duplicating the width in both the gallery dimensions (in the embedding code) and the CSS for the <td> tags.
eg:

<h2 class="text">Matua</h2>
<p class="font1">New Zealand Wine Growers and Wine Makers</p>
<table width="880" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
    <tr>
        <td style="width: 800px;">
            <!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
            <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.nzphotos2u.com/matua_glry/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
            <script type="text/javascript">
                var flashvars2 = {};
                flashvars2.baseURL = "http://www.nzphotos2u.com/matua_glry/";
                simpleviewer.ready(function () {
                    simpleviewer.load("sv-container2", "800", "100%", "000000", true, flashvars2);
                });
            </script>
            <div id="sv-container2"></div>
            <!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->
        </td>
    </tr>
</table>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

Also, as an alternative, you could try embedding the galleries using the <iframe> method (rather than the baseURL method) described here: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … l#external

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

The <td> and table widths are all now 880 but that hasn't fixed things in this gallery: http://nzphotos2u.com/commercial3.html

I've also tried the iframe suggestion but only one gallery shows: the first Tatler Prime gallery: http://nzphotos2u.com/commercial2.html

I can't find instructions for multiple iframe galleries on one page as the suggestion for multiple galleries is the baseurl method.

My suggestion was to duplicate the width in both the gallery dimensions and the <td> tags.
Although the width is set in the <td> tags, your galleries still have lines such as:

simpleviewer.load("sv-container2", "100%", "100%", "000000", true, flashvars2);

I intended for you to try:

simpleviewer.load("sv-container2", "880", "100%", "000000", true, flashvars2);

I can't find instructions for multiple iframe galleries on one page as the suggestion for multiple galleries is the baseurl method.

Keep each gallery in a separate folder (as they already are), and, rather than use the standard embedding code with a baseURL to point to the gallery folder, use the following <iframe> code (with the 'src' of the <iframe> pointing to the 'index.html' file in the gallery folder) to embed a gallery:

<iframe src="http://www.nzphotos2u.com/matua_glry/index.html" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Instructions for this method of embedding (using an <iframe> to embed an external gallery folder) can be found in point #2 here: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … l#external

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

Steven, thanks for bearing with me. The reason I purchased Simple Viewer is that I am not proficient with coding and I found this product reviewed and recommended for newbies such as myself. Therefore I am very grateful for the time you have spent coaching me in this and other tasks.

The original commercial gallery is now working as I want it to. Thanks for your guidance.

One day I may want to use the iframe option so I would be grateful if you could look again at the Commercial2 gallery as I have copied and pasted your code and double and triple-checked and still cannot get the other two galleries to load, only the one on the first tab, Tatler and Prime.

Thanks again,
Jo

Re: Gallery stretching page width & open icons won't hide

The code for your commercial2 gallery looks OK.
However, there may be a problem with using <iframe>s within Spry Tabbed Panels...
I found this (unanswered) thread in another forum which sounds similar: http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/forum/sh … hp?t=39562
Perhaps searching through (or posting a new thread in) the Spry Framework forum will help further: http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/spry/
