Topic: changing the galery location

hallo,
i don't want people connect to mysite.com/svmanager and see all my galleries.
i prefer svmanager is private and i enter in it with a password and put the gaelries anywhere on my server, which avoids playing with htaccess,...
for instance, if we do a birthday, i create the gallery "birthday_cindy" in svmanager and put in in mysite.com/family/birthday_cindy.

how can we do that :
- remove intro from svmanager
- create galery and put it anywhere

i have seen on your support page use customize but the link shows nothing interesting I think

kind regards
marc

Re: changing the galery location

remove intro from svmanager

I'm assuming that you mean the index.php page in the svmanager folder – that's the page that generates thumbnails and links to galleries. If you don't want it then delete it. More information on the support page under Galleries Index

Moving galleries is covered in the support page under Customize Screen: Advanced Settings.

Re: changing the galery location

first step : removing gallery index

just renamed index.php into index_backup.php.
so, now, users see :
http://www.labrophotography.com/svmanager/
with a list of content
i don't like people see that tree.

i have clicked on svmadmin.php and see the password welcome screen.

Can't i hide these info and whatever the user tries we see same content than : http://www.labrophotography.com/svmanager/svmadmin.php or an index page without galeries and only password ?

best regards
marc

Re: changing the galery location

sorry, it is in fact content of :
http://www.labrophotography.com/svmanager/svmanager.php

Re: changing the galery location

hallo,
isn't it a good idea to rename svmanager.php into index.php so there is an index and people don't see the content of the svmanager folder and we are directly in the username/password screen

Most production servers in my experience are set up a little differently to yours. It's unusual for production servers to display the index tree. In fact it's sometimes considered to be a minor security risk. It's more common for servers to give the user a file not found error page when there is no index file.

The easy way around it is to create a dummy index.html page in your svmanager folder. Anyone entering the address of the svmanager folder in their browser will go to that page. It can be just a simple html page with a message to the user and a link to another part of your site or it can contain any content you like. You might also want to prevent search engines from indexing this page with an entry in a robots.txt file.

Re: changing the galery location

ok, thanks i am going to contact my hosting service ovh.

however i remind you that i don't have gallery index anymore and my goal is to display password dialog box so my question about renaming svmanager.php to index.php.
it also hides the tree

Re: changing the galery location

You can't simply change the name of svmanager.php to index.php.

You could achieve the same thing with a 301 redirect. Create a new index.php file with the following code:

<?php
header ("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header ("Status: 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: http://www.labrophotography.com/svmanager/svmanager.php");
exit(0);

This will redirect from index.php to the url given in "Location:". It's important not to have any spaces or other text at the top of the file before the opening php tag.
