Topic: Multiple Image Gallery Options

Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my old image gallery setup and I'm pretty sure Simpleviewer Pro will do what I'm looking for.  My question is in regards to options for handling/managing multiple galleries and what will work the best.

Currently I have an .asp based directory list which automatically creates an index page every time I create a new gallery folder.  It's easy, I like it, but it's quite bland, no thumbnails, etc.

I've looked through the FAQ's and forum posts on multiple galleries and I don't think that's the best option with the number of galleries I'm wanting to convert.

I saw this post which talks about jAlbum & simpleviewer skin, but I haven't looked at it closely yet.

Lastly, it looks like svManager will probably do what I want, but I'm currently not running php on the server with the images.  That's not a deal killer, but just something else I'd have to setup, manage, update, etc.

Ultimately, I'd like things to be as automated as I could get them once I setup the gallery, like I have now with the directory listing, but I may not be able to have that.

So anyway, any feedback or suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks
Josh

Re: Multiple Image Gallery Options

The best thing to do would be to try out both options.
There is an online demonstration of svManager here: http://simpleviewer.net/svmanager/demo/svmanager.php
You can also download, install and try jAlbum and the SimpleViewer skin (which comes with SimpleViewer Standard) for free.
Both svManager and the jAlbum skin can be upgraded to SimpleViewer Pro but, of the two, only svManager has all the Pro Options changeable via an interface. With the jAlbum skin, you would need to enter the Pro Options into a text area.
Also, svManager manages galleries online whereas jAlbum creates your galleries locally on your hard drive and them uploads the files to your web server.

Re: Multiple Image Gallery Options

Thanks for the feedback Steven.  I've checked out the demo of svManager and like how the galleries are setup, however I'm not sure if that's automatically generated once the galleries are imported into svManager, or if they need to be setup.  If I create a new gallery folder does it automatically show up in that index?  Or do I have to build the index once I create the folder?

I've got physical access to the server and I will typically just copy the files from my desktop to the server over the network.  So a web interface isn't really a big deal for me.

I guess I need to try and look into jAlbum a little more and see how it works for what I'm wanting to do and report back.

Thanks
Josh

Yes. Galleries created using svManager are automatically added to the index page.

So I don't use the svBuilder to create the gallery?  I guess I'll have to read up on svManager a little more.  I really would prefer not to create galleries via a web interface, and if that's primarily how svManager and all the indexes get setup, it may not be what I want.

You can use svBuilder-Pro to create your galleries and then import them into svManager to add them to the index page and allow them to be edited by svManager in the future but you can also create your galleries using svManager itself.
