Topic: Non Flash gallery

I have a great flash gallery on my website. I would like to be able to have the same gallery without using flash so iPhone and iPad users also are able to see it. I have tried to create the same gallery in Simpleviewer Pro 2 unticking the “Use Flash” button in the “Embed Options” but it doesn’t work when I upload it to my website.

This is the gallery with the flash

This is the one without the flash

Is it possible to create a gallery that has the large photo on top of the thumbnails without the use of flash? Or in other words; is it possible to create a gallery using Simpleviewer that will look good on iPhones and iPads as well as on PC/Macs?

Many thanks Thomas

Re: Non Flash gallery

It is not possible to have the thumbnails and main images on the same page when the gallery is being displayed with the Mobile Player.
Please see these FAQs regarding the differences between the Flash and Mobile displays:

Re: Non Flash gallery

Follow up question, since I haven't seen a reply in the svManager post.

Can I create a mobile gallery in the newest version of svManager? If so, how? Or, do I need to buy Simpleviewer Pro to do this? Even when the web site says the non-pro version says it can do universal playback?

Thanks!

Re: Non Flash gallery

Can I create a mobile gallery in the newest version of svManager?

Yes. svManager comes with SimpleViewer-Standard v2.1.3 which supports Universal Playback. By default, the gallery will be displayed using the Flash Player if Adobe Flash Player is installed and enabled in the user's browser or by the Mobile Player otherwise.
If you wish to force the Mobile Player to be used in all browsers (even if Adobe Flash Player is present), then deselect the 'Use Flash' checkbox in the 'Customize -> Advanced Settings' section in svManager's interface.
Both SimpleViewer-Standard and SimpleViewer-Pro support this functionality but if you wish to purchase SimpleViewer-Pro, svManager can be upgraded by following the instructions here: http://simpleviewer.net/svmanager/support/#svpro

Re: Non Flash gallery

OK, thanks. However, it must not work with existing galleries that I brought over from an older version of svManager...right? Because it doesn't work for me. Do the "mobile" galleries need to be made from scratch in the new version in order to work?

Thank you.

Re: Non Flash gallery

Alright, I tried making a new gallery, and it works. Bummer that I have to recreate all my other galleries just to get this to work. Is there any way around that? I tried the "rebuild" option, but nothing happened mobile-wise.

Also, I can't get the captions to show in the mobile version. Works fine on the Flash version (I'm using the compact viewer with the thumbs on the bottom). I've tried unchecking the float captions, and changing the height of the captions. Also, it is "Mobile Show Caption" is checked in the mobile options.

Re: Non Flash gallery

To change a Flash gallery to a Mobile-only gallery in svManager, editing the gallery, deselecting the 'Use Flash' checkbox and clicking 'Update' should work. You may have to clear your browser's cache after doing this in order to see the change.

I've tried unchecking the float captions, and changing the height of the captions.

These are Flash gallery options which are not used by the Mobile Player.
Please post a URL to the gallery so that we can take a look.

I don't want the galleries to be mobile-only, just mobile-friendly. Tried the uncheck flash method, and it doesn't seem to work (see the agricultural gallery for an example).

Thanks!

Re: Non Flash gallery

Your 'Agriculture' gallery uses SimpleViewer v2.0.1, prior to the Mobile Player being introduced in v2.1.
You can convert an older SimpleViewer gallery to the current version (v2.1.3) by using svBuilder and following the instructions here: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … ml#upgrade

Re: Non Flash gallery

Thanks for that. I appreciate the help.

Any idea why the captions don't show in the mobile viewer for the homes gallery?

Re: Non Flash gallery

The captions are displayed OK in the Mobile Player in Firefox 7, IE9, Chrome 14 and Safari 5.1 on my PC, just not in Mobile Safari on my iPod Touch 4 where your gallery is truncated at the bottom and, thus, the captions are not visible.
Try setting your gallery's height in the embedding code to the same pixel value as the height of your <iframe> (rather than 100%).

Re: Non Flash gallery

Thanks for the help. I think I have some CSS cleaning up to do.
