Topic: Installation, embedding problem

Hello,
I have tried and searched (in this forum) all evening for a solution but I've ended up with no results.

I have just bought and downloaded simpleviewer pro, correctly installed sv-builder and, it seems, properly changed the files in the svcore folder (the simpleviewer grey banner at the bottom right is not showing anymore... so right?)

I want to create a gallery with svbuilder and then upload it to my wordpress website.
The problem is always the same (so I expect to be making a really basic mistake): XML file not found.
I've tried updating the gallery folder in my website (should it be in a specific folder? such as inside plugin/simpleviewer?) and using the baseURL (flashvars) technique, but it doesn't work.

actually I'm trying to use:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="gallerie/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars={};
flashvars.baseURL="gallerie/";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

I have uploaded the "gallerie" folder containing the svcore etc by an FTP software (cuteFTP) in the main folder (so not in the wordpress plugin one), and used baseURL as suggested in other discussions

I don't mind using a different techinque for uploading the gallery, as long as it works for galleries made by svbuilder.
I guess I find the embedding codes a bit confusing to find the solution on my own.
Thanks

Re: Installation, embedding problem

properly changed the files in the svcore folder (the simpleviewer grey banner at the bottom right is not showing anymore... so right?)

If you no longer see the SimpleViewer badge/link at the bottom right-hand corner of the gallery, then your gallery is, indeed, SimpleViewer-Pro.

I've tried updating the gallery folder in my website (should it be in a specific folder? such as inside plugin/simpleviewer?)

No. It does not matter where on your web server you upload your gallery folder to, as long as you know where it is.
There does not look to be anything wrong with the code you posted. If you see the 'Gallery XML Not Found' message, it implies that the path to the 'simpleviewer.js' file is correct and if this is correct, then it would appear that 'gallerie' is, indeed, your gallery folder so your baseURL looks correct, too.
Check that your gallery's XML file is named 'gallery.xml' and is located in your 'gallerie' folder.
If you continue to experience difficulties, please post the URL to the web page into which your gallery is embedded so that I can take a look.

Re: Installation, embedding problem

Further trials didn't improve the result.
the url in which the gallery should be embedded is: http://gemellideval.it/test/
(the domain is associated to both www.de-val.com and www.gemellideval.it, but the reference for cuteFTP is gemellideval.it. I don't know if that makes a difference)

I've checked that the xml file is called "gallery.xml".

Is it possible that I have installed it wrong?

Re: Installation, embedding problem

Your 'gallerie' folder should be uploaded to the 'http://gemellideval.it/test/' directory but it does not exist there.
For example, your gallery's XML file should be located here: http://gemellideval.it/test/gallerie/gallery.xml
... and your gallery's 'simpleviewer'js' file should be located here: http://gemellideval.it/test/gallerie/sv … eviewer.js
Going to either of these locations in a browser results in an error 404 (file not found).
Make sure you are uploading your 'gallerie' folder to the correct location within your FTP program.
When you log in to your web space with your FTP program, you should be uploading files to a folder named 'public_html' or 'htdocs' (or something similar). This represents the root of your domain in a browser.
Therefore, your gallery folder should be uploaded to 'public_html/test/'.
If you are unsure where files should be uploaded on your web server for them to be publicly accessible, please contact your web host as web servers can differ.

Re: Installation, embedding problem

The "gallerie" folder is now inside the "public_html" folder. But there's nothing such as a "test" folder inside it.
There aren't folders associated to each web page. I don't know why (bear in mind that is a wordpress website).

Now I'm at this point:
http://www.gemellideval.it/gallerie/svc … eviewer.js

http://www.gemellideval.it/gallerie/gallery.xml

Which, if I'm not wrong, should mean that gallery.xml and simpleviewer.js are actually public for my website.

After that I have tried embedding with this code:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.gemellideval.it/gallerie/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.galleryURL = "http://www.gemellideval.it/gallerie/gallery.xml";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

but it has been a vain attempt.

I am sorry if I am making amateurs mistakes, but embedding doesn't really seem user friendly, especially if I compare it to the associated plugin which can be istalled in seconds through wordpress...
I didn't expect to use a FTP program to embed a gallery.

Re: Installation, embedding problem

If you are using gemellideval.it as the URL for your website, then you should use gemellideval.it in your embedding code (rather than www.gemellideval.it, which is a subdirectory of gemellideval.it).
The following should work fine:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://gemellideval.it/gallerie/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.baseURL= "http://gemellideval.it/gallerie/";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

... but there appears to be a problem with your WordPress page at the moment.

I didn't expect to use a FTP program to embed a gallery.

Have you tried WP-SimpleViewer, the dedicated SimpleViewer plugin for WordPress? It would allow you to create and edit SimpleViewer galleries online using the WordPress Dashboard and there would be no need for you to use FTP.
Please see this page for details: http://www.simpleviewer.net/simpleviewe … pleviewer/

Re: Installation, embedding problem

the link: http://gemellideval.it/gallerie/
returns the gallery (now it's visible) as it should be.

But yet the page "test" returns the same problem.

Yes,I've already used the plugin for creating a gallery with the free version of simpleviewer. But the main reason why i bought the pro is because of the svbuilder, so I would prefer to use it.

Where am I wrong now?

Anyway thanks for your support, I believe I am making this problem much more complicated for you to solve

Re: Installation, embedding problem

I may well be overlooking something but at the moment, I am not actually sure why your gallery does not function correctly.
It works OK when you visit this URL: http://gemellideval.it/gallerie/index.html
It also works OK (being displayed by the Mobile Player) using this URL on mobile devices or when Adobe Flash Player is disabled in my desktop browser: http://gemellideval.it/test/
Trying one of the following may solve the problem, though.
(1) Use a galleryURL rather than a baseURL:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://gemellideval.it/gallerie/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.galleryURL= "http://gemellideval.it/gallerie/gallery.xml";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

... or:

(2) Replace your embedding code with an <iframe>:

<iframe src="http://gemellideval.it/gallerie/index.html" width="100%" height="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Re: Installation, embedding problem

I've made some trials by fantasy...

...and

it works this way:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://de-val.com/gallerie/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.galleryURL= "http://de-val.com/gallerie/gallery.xml";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "950", "650", "transparent", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

I changed gemellideval.it with de-val.com and it seems to work (I have confirmed the result by making succesfully another gallery). I have absolutely no idea why, since the proper domain is still gemellideval.it.

To be onest i had to change also the  width and height parameters because the percentage values seem to create problems in dimentioning the gallery, but works fine with fixed values.
Any ideas why?

When setting gallery dimensions as percentages, you need to be sure that all parent containers have dimensions set via CSS. Otherwise, the percentages are meaningless (100% of what?). In a WordPress environment where your theme may use parent containers to control the width of columns (and you do not have control over the dimensions of these parent containers), it may be safer to set your gallery's dimensions using absolute pixel values (as you have discovered).
This FAQ is related to the subject: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … ml#embed_7
In the code I posted above, I used percentages only because the code in your first post used percentages.
