Topic: Embedding gallery help please...

Hi,

I've been using simple viewer for years in my website even though I'm not a web developer... please forgive me if I'm a bit slow to understand the web terms.

After years, I'm changing the design of my webpage.  I want something more simple and a gallery on the right side with a fixed text/links on the left hand side is all I need. I'm working on dreamweaver and this is the first gallery I'm testing... I followed exactly as it's said on the support page regarding "embedding gallery" but it doesn't seems to work for me, the gallery will always open in a separate page.

I have a copy of the entire published gallery folder inside the main folder, and I have added the code on the html page in which I wanted to be the fixed page, this is what I have:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
<title>picturenoise: menu</title>
<style type="text/css">
#apDiv1 {
    position:absolute;
    left:581px;
    top:227px;
    width:125px;
    height:166px;
    z-index:1;
}
</style>
<script src="SpryAssets/SpryEffects.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
function MM_effectAppearFade(targetElement, duration, from, to, toggle)
{
    Spry.Effect.DoFade(targetElement, {duration: duration, from: from, to: to, toggle: toggle});
}
</script>
</head>

<body>

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "FFFFFF", true);
});
</script>

<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

<img src="images/menu.jpg" width="1024" height="768" border="0" usemap="#Map" onload="MM_effectAppearFade(this, 1000, 0, 100, false)" />
<map name="Map" id="Map">
  <area shape="rect" coords="58,281,183,294" href="images/agfa rapid/index.html" />
  <area shape="rect" coords="137,252,182,267" href="images/holga/index.html" />
</map>
</body>

</html>
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Well.. it's been a couple of days already and haven't got much time anymore to spare on this... really don't want to give up but my head is about to explode! yikes  Any help would be much appreciated... smile

Thanks

I followed exactly as it's said on the support page regarding "embedding gallery" but it doesn't seems to work for me, the gallery will always open in a separate page.

This sounds like you are linking to a gallery, rather than embedding it in a page.
However, the code you posted does not support this theory. It looks like it should be embedded in the page above your 'menu.jpg' image.
Please post the URL to your web page so that I can see it in action and see what you are seeing. I may then have a better understanding of what is going on.
Also, try changing the dimensions of your gallery from percentages to absolute pixel values (as your gallery has no parent containers), eg:

simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "800", "600", "FFFFFF", true);

Re: Embedding gallery help please...

Thanks Steven,

Sorry, but the page is not live yet so I can't really send it to you, I just started building with dreamweaver and trying as I go...

Make sure that your gallery's HTML index page (whose default name is 'index.html) is not overwriting your own 'index.html' page.
Either rename your gallery's HTML index page to a different name or do not use it at all. It is required only if linking to the gallery directly (on its own page) or if embedding the gallery in an existing web page using an <iframe>. It is not required if embedding the gallery in an existing web page using the recommended embedding code (as you are doing).

Re: Embedding gallery help please...

I've tried what you said but still no luck... whenever I preview on firefox I still have my fixed menu on the left with no gallery.

I really appreciate your help but I guess this is all beyond my knoledge ( I'm a photographer and I should be looking after the contents after all...)  I'll come back to this another time, it's been a few days already and I'm tired tongue ...

I'll stick with the old design for now or will try something else...

Many thanks for your help so far...

Re: Embedding gallery help please...

If you are able to upload your work-in-progress, please post back with the URL and I can take a look at it for you and hopefully help further.
