Topic: Using an external svCore Folder

I just upgraded to SimpleViewer Pro and I am trying to set up an external svcore folder and a presetURL.  Right now I am struggling to get past the external svcore file.  Whenever I point to the external folder, I receive the message Gallery XML Not found.  Here are two simple examples:

This one uses an svcore folder in the gallery directory and it works.
http://camps.ppbsa.org/camps/sac/sites/iroquois/

This one attempts to use as external svcore folder and it fails
http://camps.ppbsa.org/camps/sac/sites/test/

Any ideas?

Re: Using an external svCore Folder

I did some more testing and I found the following.

If the url of the page with the embedded gallery begins with http://www, then the url of the svcore folder (and the presetURL) must also begin with http://www.  If there is no www in the page url, then there cannot be a www in the url of the svcore folder (and the presetURL).

For example
http://camps.ppbsa.org/camps/sac/sites/test2/ works

and

http://www.camps.ppbsa.org/camps/sac/sites/test2/  fails.

If I add the www to the urls (svcore folder and presetURL) in the code.  Then the first link fails and the second link works!

Can anyone explain what is happening?  Is this normal?

Re: Using an external svCore Folder

If the url of the page with the embedded gallery begins with http://www, then the url of the svcore folder (and the presetURL) must also begin with http://www.  If there is no www in the page url, then there cannot be a www in the url of the svcore folder (and the presetURL).

That is correct. This is due to the JavaScript same-origin policy security restriction and the fact that 'www.camps.ppbsa.org' is a subdomain of 'camps.ppbsa.org'.
The page containing the gallery's embedding code must be on the same domain as the gallery's files.
Please see this web page for further details.
Try using relative URLs within your embedding code (rather than absolute URLs) and your gallery should work if a user visits your web site via the 'www' subdomain or not, e.g.:

<script type="text/javascript" src="../../../../gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
