Topic: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

I am new to this and am really struggling with getting Simple Viewer Pro to work in my Wordpress site.

I have purchased Pro and followed the upgrade instructions to install it, replacing the simple svCore folder with the Pro svCore folder. I then removed caches from my browser, but nothing seems to have happened and another gallery that I created before I got pro still shows the SV brand. Therefore I don't think pro is installed properly.

Secondly, I went ahead and created a gallery with SVBuilder Pro. The gallery displays well in the browser however, I can;t embed it in my page. The new gallery folder is saved on my desktop. The instructions say to upload this folder to the folder which contains the page html. But because wordpress doesn't created actual folders for pages or posts, I don't know whereto find this. I read some forums and have now uploaded it in my chosen theme in the Themes folder. I then cut and paste the embed code into the page (using the wp- c-panel) but when I go to preview the page it shows only the SV logo bar and an error msg saying Gallery xml not found.

I am really stuck so any advise on where I'm going wrong (preferably in layman's terms) would be really appreciated. Thanks

If using WP-SimpleViewer (the dedicated SimpleViewer plugin for WordPress), instructions for upgrading the plugin to SimpleViewer-Pro can be found here.
Once the 'svcore' folder has been replaced, the plugin will have no option but to use the Pro files and the SimpleViewer branding will be removed.
If you have any doubt as to whether or not the Standard 'svcore' folder on your web server is being overwritten, try deleting it from your web server first before uploading the Pro version in its place.
Also, after making the change, you may need to clear your browser's cache before reloading the gallery to ensure that your browser does not hang onto and use older versions of your gallery files.

The instructions say to upload this folder to the folder which contains the page html. But because wordpress doesn't created actual folders for pages or posts, I don't know whereto find this.

If you want to embed a gallery created by svBuilder-Pro into a WordPress page or post:
(1) Upload the complete gallery folder (not just the contents) to your web server. It does not matter where you upload the folder to as long as you know where it is.
(2) Use the baseURL method of embedding as documented here. When entering the embedding code into the page or post, make sure that the two paths within the embedding code (the path to the 'simpleviewer.js' file and the baseURL itself) are correct and that the method of entry is 'Text' rather than 'Visual'.

If you continue to experience difficulties, please post the URL to your gallery so that I can take a look.

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the explanation. I have followed your steps but the gallery is still not working. See here:

http://katewatson.org/photography/photo … 3c6aba8369

This is the code that I modified (as per my understanding of the base URL embedding instructions) and embedded in the text section of the page:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.katewatson.org/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.baseURL = "http://www.katewatson.org/gallery/Zambia Gallery.htm";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

There are two problems with your gallery's embedding code:

(1)

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.katewatson.org/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js">

Your gallery's 'simpleviewer.js' file is not located at that location on your web server.

(2) The baseURL should point towards the gallery folder (not a file within the gallery folder).

For example, if your gallery folder is named 'Zambia Gallery' and you have uploaded the complete gallery folder (not just the contents) to the 'gallery' directory on your web server, then the following embedding code will work:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.katewatson.org/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.baseURL = "http://www.katewatson.org/gallery/Zambia Gallery/";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

Thanks for your help so far. For point (2) - My gallery folder 'Zambia Gallery' is located within a 'gallery' folder so the code you provided should work.

I don't understand point (1) though. I uploaded the gallery file to my Godaddy file manager as per the instructions, then followed the path to get to the simpleviewer.js in the folder - this is the path :

http://www.katewatson.org/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"

ie the simpleviewer.js file is located within a js folder within a svcore folder which is within m specific Zambia Gallery folder located in the generic gallery folder. All of this is in wp.contents folder accessed through file manager at my godaddy dashboard.

I am really new to this, so please spell it out for me. Do I need to put wp-content at the beginning or some reference to Godaddy?

Thanks in advance,

Kate

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

All of this is in wp.contents folder accessed through file manager at my godaddy dashboard.

Thank you for providing this additional information.
Knowing that your gallery folder is inside the 'wp-content' folder, the following embedding code should work:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.baseURL = "http://www.katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "100%", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

As you are using WordPress, you might like to consider using WP-SimpleViewer, the dedicated SimpleViewer plugin for WordPress which would allow you to create galleries within the WordPress Dashboard without the need to manually upload files and insert embedding code.

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

Hi,

I have inserted the embed code that you posted and the gallery is still not working - Im not sure what to do now.

I chose sv-viewer pro because it had the customizable options I needed. As I've now paid for it, I'm keen to stick with it and get it to work.

What should I try now?

Thanks

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

The code I posted should work fine.
Make sure that you clear your browser's cache to ensure that your browser is not hanging onto and using older versions of your gallery files.
Please post the URL to your web page so that I can take a further look. At present, your link above displays a 'You do not have permission to preview drafts.' message.

I would still recommend that you take a look at WP-SimpleViewer which would simplify the process of creating and embedding SimpleViewer galleries in WordPress pages and posts.

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

Hi Steven,

I have updated the caches and the gallery is still not working.

I have followed all your steps and nserted the exact code you sent, but I cannot get the gallery to display.

The link to the page where the gallery should display is:  http://katewatson.org/photography/photography-migrants/

Its really frustrating as I have paid to use the SimpleViewer Pro. Can I sent you the details to login as admin on either the wordpress site, or godaddy host, to see if from there you can see what the problem is?

Thanks in advance,

Kate

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

Your www.katewatson.org subdomain redirects to katewatson.org but your embedding code uses absolute URLs with the www.katewatson.org subdomain (which is not the same domain that the user's browser will be displaying after the redirection).
Please see this FAQ which deals with loading images from a different domain/subdomain:
When loading images from a different domain, the images don't load or I see a 'Security Sandbox Violation' error. How do I fix this?
The solution, in your case, would be to simply change the URLs in your gallery's embedding code to point to the katewatson.org domain.

Also, with regard to your gallery's height, try setting the height to be an absolute pixel value rather than a percentage.

Try the following embedding code:

<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script><br />
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.baseURL = "http://katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "600", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script></p>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

Hi Steven,

That code works- thank you!

However, there is a black box now around the images. I don't want any borders, just the image and caption below - how do I fix this?

Thanks again,

Kate

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

Hi,

Also, as I will be embedding various galleries, can you please highlight the parts of the code that I will have to edit for each specific gallery (which I will install in the same location) page.

RT SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script><br />
<script type="text/javascript">
var flashvars = {};
flashvars.baseURL = "http://katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/";
simpleviewer.ready(function () {
simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "600", "222222", true, flashvars);
});
</script></p>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

Thanks

Re: Problem upgrading to pro and embedding gallery in page

I am not sure what black box you are referring to but if you mean the gallery's background, you can set this to be transparent by using the following code in your gallery's embedding code:

simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "100%", "600", "transparent", true, flashvars);

Also, as I will be embedding various galleries, can you please highlight the parts of the code that I will have to edit for each specific gallery (which I will install in the same location) page.

When using the baseURL method of embedding (and uploading your complete gallery folders to your web server), there are only two paths in the embedding code to worry about:
(1) The path to the 'simpleviewer.js' file in this line:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>

(2) The baseURL itself:

flashvars.baseURL = "http://katewatson.org/wp-content/gallery/Zambia Gallery/";

You can copy and paste the rest of the embedding code for each gallery.
