Topic: Newbie tearing hair out

I download the simpleviewer and extract the zip files but nothing actually DOES anything  sad  Which is the executable to fire this baby up, and how can I make a shortcut to launch it?
Also going nuts with Adobe, on 3 different 'puter at 2 locations I try to lad Flash 9 (and even 7 from archives) and get an endless loop of "check ok to terms" "download" and then it simply reloads the "download page" and waits for me to "accept terms". I can use the demo simpleview on the demonstration page, so I'm assuming I have a new enough version of Flash?
Simpleview is exactly what I was looking for and now it's just teasing me   TIA for all help.

Re: Newbie tearing hair out

To see the gallery in the downloaded files,  double-click the 'index.html' file.

Have you read this page?

Yes, several times but it's like reading the manual to the radio of a car you're locked out of. If there's a specific line there that I seem to be missing, please feel free to point it out, thanks.

Re: Newbie tearing hair out

To see the gallery in the downloaded files,  double-click the indexfile.

When I do that I get a working demo version with all thumbnial pics the same, and the viewer/download button in the lower right, but nothing in the way of a toolbar or anything like that. If I right click a thumb I get a Flash settings box but that's about it.
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, should I just grab the demo from the index link and edit it as HTML?
Thanks,
Glenn

Re: Newbie tearing hair out

It sounds like you're seeing exactly what you should be. What's this toolbar you expect to see?

Re: Newbie tearing hair out

Bingo. My misunderstanding from the start. I though Simpleviewer was usable to build the page itself, as well as import from other programs. Looks like it's not what I was looking for after all. Thanks for the help  smile

Re: Newbie tearing hair out

SimpleViewer won't build the page for you, lets face it, its *free*! But you can use some of the application plugins (such as Picasa, iPhoto, RapidWeaver, Aperture, Lightroom).  And I find the buildgallery.php quick and easy to use. I can set up a gallery of 100 images in just a few minutes.

Anyway its entirely up to you...

Yes, and if you want to manage albums etc, you can use SimpleViewerAdmin, FlickrViewer, PicasaViewer etc, all also free smile

Re: Newbie tearing hair out

This is true, thanks for the input. I really didn't care about cost, just wanted a "click & shoot". I'm not all that thrilled with my current MS Front Page & WS_FTP Pro. Heck, Corecomm is an ISP that has a really nice one for their customers, but it's unreliable since their server keeps crashing and/or being unavailable for access. You click to create an album, click add photo, browse, upload, and it's done. Big photo and row of thumbs on a slider bar below to change the big photo, any pic smaller than 2 meg works and it automatically compresses them with little quality loss. Was looking for something like that. I'm 51 and spent a bunch of my life programming PLCs robots, pick&place stuff, etc. I just don't want to do that on my own time lol . I just want a hammer, not a nailgun wink Thanks again,
Glenn
