Topic: SV works on one webserver but not on another

Hi
I built a site for a friend using SV for the gallery which is awesome btw, and it works fine locally then I uploaded it to her webhost and SV doesnt load but everything else does.

To double check I uploaded the exact same site files to a different host and it works fine.

Reading through the forum I asked her web admin guy if hotlinks were enabled, he said no,

He suggested I have path link problems and should change those but it works fine (the code after all is from SV i didnt mess with it) on another host and locally with those paths so I have my doubts about that.

Are there any other reasons why SV wouldnt load once live?

I would really appreciate any help.

Re: SV works on one webserver but not on another

hotlinks should be enabled. i.e. Hotlink protection = off

I've had the exact same problem and have yet to get a feasible answer from anyone why this is happening.  I'm continually reffered back to the "hot links" issue, or my image path.  I would expect that the makers of the product, (airtight), would look into the issue a bit more to offer a plausible explanation.  It is really irrtating because I've spent entirely too much time trying to resolve the issue on my end.  Good luck getting some decent feedback.

The issue is simple. If you have hotlink protection turned on then it won't work. I personnally have not had any problems with image paths or links.
The first thing you should always do is test your gallery from your local drive. If it works there then the problems are with your server setup and your hosting company (usually). When users try and embed or include the simpleviwer gallery into a web page the issues become significantly more complicated. Keep in mind it's free and it works. I find it can be very difficult to help people when A. I don't have access to their html and xml files, or their server, and B. if I haven't had to solve the problem myself then how would I know how to fix it?

Making seemingly angry posts might not increase your luck of getting decent feedback.

Re: SV works on one webserver but not on another

What browser are you using (when it doesn't work) and what ftp software did you use to copy the files to your web server?
Also please post a link to the gallery like this: www phillipnorman com/weddings/
We can replace the spaces with dots

Re: SV works on one webserver but not on another

I used ws_ftp to upload the files, and I also used dreamweavers ftp as well

I tested locally on a mac and a pc using firefox,safari and explorer everything worked  fine.

I uploaded here: www vanessawu com/gallery1/photography and it didn't work.

So to double check I uploaded here: www rspassistant com/gallery1/photography and again it works fine

Hotlinks are apparently turned off as well.

Thankyou for responding btw much appreciated

Re: SV works on one webserver but not on another

Hotlink protection is off i should say,
just re read my original post and thought I should just clarify

Re: SV works on one webserver but not on another

I appreciate that this is a free download and I'm grateful for the forum but if you look to my post "trouple with images in SV and AV" you will see what I'm talking about.  I'm not angry, just waiting for someone to give me an explanation other than what I've got to this point.  Over 100 views and no new ideas or suggestions.

Re: SV works on one webserver but not on another

Make sure all the files are lower case name and extension. You have some upper case files which is not standard.

Also in the folder www.vanessawu.com/gallery1/ create an index.html that looks like the following and browse to that and see if it works:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http&#58;//www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<!-- saved from url=&#40;0014&#41;about&#58;internet -->
<html xmlns="http&#58;//www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml&#58;lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<title>Photography</title>
<!-- Download SimpleViewer at www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script>
<style type="text/css">
    /* hide from ie on mac */
    html &#123;
        height&#58; 100%;
        overflow&#58; hidden;
    &#125;
    #flashcontent &#123;
        height&#58; 100%;
    &#125;
    /* end hide */
    body &#123;
        height&#58; 100%;
        margin&#58; 0;
        padding&#58; 0;
        background-color&#58; #000000;
        color&#58;#000000;
    &#125;
</style>
</head>
<body>
    <div id="flashcontent">SimpleViewer requires Macromedia Flash. <a href="http&#58;//www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Macromedia Flash.</a> If you have Flash installed, <a href="index.html?detectflash=false">click to view gallery</a>.</div>
    <script type="text/javascript">
        var fo = new SWFObject&#40;"viewer.swf", "viewer", "800", "400", "8", "#000000"&#41;;

        fo.write&#40;"flashcontent"&#41;;
