Topic: Images larger than 2800px getting cropped

Images larger than 2800px seem to be getting cropped. I've got the maxImageWidth and height set to 600px, and that is working perfectly up to an image size of greater than about 2800px, after which the images get the right hand side cut off. Is this something wrong with the way I've set it up or a bug in the gallery?

Thanks
Andrew

Why do you need to upload such large images? I would recommend image sizes of no large than 900x900 pixels. They will fit on most peoples screens and will download a lot faster?!

The gallery is for a professional photographer so clients need the full size photos.

Re: Images larger than 2800px getting cropped

Felix may correct me if I am wrong but I would be fairly sure that simpleviewer is not designed to display large images, whether intentionally or not. Have you considered using the caption or right click to access the larger files rather than having them load into the browser/viewer. And what kind of security do you have in place to prevent people who shouldn't have access getting the large files?

Sorry I know this doesn't answer your question. There might be a better approach to allow clients to view the images with a fast simple viewer and then give them access to the large files some other way???

Re: Images larger than 2800px getting cropped

Yeah, I would recommend uploading a set of the images optimised for web for use through the viewer, say no more than 900 pixel across as pnorman suggested, and then offer the clients a way of downloading each image in full elsewhere. This will also, in theory, help reduce loading speeds, although even with large images I've never had a problem with loading speeds in simpleviewer!

Re: Images larger than 2800px getting cropped

It seems to be a limitation of the Flash player itself rather than SimpleViewer that the maximum image size handled correctly is 2880x2880.

I realise it has been suggested already but I agree with pnorman and stu2000.  I'd scale the images down and give SimpleViewer these to use.  You can then link to the originals via a caption/link (in the XML file) or, if you have the Pro version, you could alter the path (in one of the ActionScript files) to have the 'right-click open' action link to the originals.

This recent thread deals with the same issue:

Thanks for your help guys! I think we'll go down the pro route and link to the full size files.
