Topic: Captions on a 50% opaque layer

Is it possible to place the captions on a dark opaque layer that spans the width of the stage with a 50% opacity. Similar to what you may see on the music[dot]msn[dot]com site? Essentially, I'm sure this can be done on the image in photoshop but for dynamic and flexibility it would be best in actionscript or flash.

As a workaround, you gotta love'm, i just "painted" the opaque layer i was looking for on the image in photoshop. Though this alternative does indeed suffice I would rather stay the course and do this programmatically. Any takers?
