Topic: thumbs show up at first, but go white when fully loaded

my gallery is located here

I've changed both imgPath and thumbPath so it points to the right folders, and everything kinda seems to load fine. But I've got ONE major problem: as soon as the thumbnails are fully loaded, they turn into a solid white :(
I know that I've put the right path, because you can see the thumbnails for a real short amount of time, but then they turn white!

help please!

uhm, I copied all the files from my awardspace account to another host, and it's still the same, so it's apperently nothing wrong with the host or anything, just maybe with my scripting or the Hallor host...

why do they turn white?! D:

this is what I've written in the simpleviewer data tag:

I also tried by uploading everything to a third host, but with the same result.
do you think it's something wrong with how hallor.com transfers the thumbs or something? :S

Even more strange, hmm it shows up white sometimes. After some tweaking last night i got it to show and this morning when checked after it is white again...

I think I've narrow down the problem.

When I had generated the XML file in the gallery.xml, in the xml i specified the domain name photographybykevin.net.

The problem is I have 3 domain names pointing to one site.

So if I access photographybykevin.net the thumbnails show up fine.

However if i acces smilepak.com or knguyentu.com, the thumbnails all show up as white.

Hmm this didn't happen before in previous version.

Felix: Any idea or suggestion? I hate to remove the domain name from the xml file as i struggled between absolute path and relative path thing for 2 months, as the result resort to the domain name specifying.

New user here with the same problem: thumbs work locally, but not when thumbPath is directed to my ISP.  The images DO load, however, when directed to my ISP.

in the XML file, I remove the domain name in the thumbnail path and image path tag area and use absolute path

i.e. /picture/album1/thumbs/ & picture/album1/images/

instead of

www.domain.com/picture/album1/thumbs/

seem to fixed the problem.

Thanks. I was testing with the index.html on my local, and images at my ISP.  The images worked, but the thumbs were white.  All works fine when running the index from the ISP, and using the paths you described.

How's your page work? In your case you might just need to specify

/thumbs/

and

/images/

it depends on where your index file for the album is located. For me, i uses PHP include, so from a system perspective, my index is in my root direct, that was why i had to do the /pictures/album1/thumbs/ method...

So I need to specify the full URL.
Unfortunately I cannot include the simple viewer on 'domain2.com' from 'domain1.com' as I need to pass some variables which can only be passed as Session variables (which in turn does not work between different sites).

I warned you, it's complicated  :?
I wonder if this domain thing is a bug or a feature..

Not sure if this will solve your problem, but it is easy to try. put this xml file in your root.

Does your domain1.com points to your domain2.com? If so, it is similar to my setup.

all of it is one domain. Because of that, you shouldn't have the domain name in the XML file. Use absolute or relative path naming convention.

do a google on "Absolute Path" and "Relative Path"....


Basically in each of your album location, in the XML file where it specify thumbpath and imagepath you will specify the path location to the thumb and image for that album...

sorry, I didn't only mean different domains but also different webroot directories, so there's really no way of doing it with absolute or relative paths without using the domain.

/srv/www/web1 which is www.domain1.com
/srv/www/web2 which is www.domain2.com

Thanks for the advice Flash ho, your idea sounds promising. I'll give it a try tonight and let you know if it works.

I think I have the same problem, but im not terribly good with programing.  What do you mean the first frame of the flash movie?  Do I enter it into the xml file?  Can you be more specific where?  Also, does the "www.mysite.com" refer to the domain with the images or the xml and swf files?  Or since im not actually displaying it on my site, but only hosting it so that it can be embeded into myspace, should the www.mysite.com be myspce url?

Thanks felix, but ive already gotten that far.  And what you have posted under faq 25 is exactly what will cause the thumbnails to turn white.  The image and thumb paths must be relative, not absolute.  However, when using  multiple domains, this cant be avoided.

Try re-downloading SimpleViewer, I've added code to allow loading images from any domain.

Wow, thanks for all your help Felix, the viewer displays perfectly now in myspace.  However, I have one more issue before I leave you alone. 

While embeded in myspace, the links I set up on the captions do not work.  They function fine when I run it from my desktop, but when embeded in myspace, they stop working. 

Is this a problem with my coding or with myspace?  Do you know away around it?
