Topic: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

I'm having a issue with Simpleviewer and CurvyCorners in IE.... If I disable CurvyCorners SV works fine, and sometimes if you refresh enough it will work fine. So maybe if simpleviewer loads after CurvyCorners finishes rounding the corners.

Below are two pictures of what happens:

Broken

How it should look

Let me know if you need to see code or something..

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

It looks like it is curvycorners and swfobject not getting along, currently your are using swfobject 1.5 try swfobject 2.1 maybe it will not conflict in IE.

Hmm, well I tried that, but it didn't seem to work with simpleviewer.

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Okay, so swfobject 2.2 did fix the problem. Its just not a plug n play solution.  smile

I strongly recommend that anyone that is having the same or a similar problem jump over to the swfobject site and use their generator: http://www.bobbyvandersluis.com/swfobje … index.html
Or read the documentation: http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/wiki/documentation

For instance my code changed from this:
            <div id="flashcontent">SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player. <a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Flash.</a></div>
            <script type="text/javascript">

                var fo = new SWFObject("viewer.swf", "viewer", "780", "408", "7", "#FFFFFF");
                fo.addVariable("xmlDataPath", "gallery.xml");
                fo.write("flashcontent");
            </script>

To this:
        <div id="content">
            <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="780" height="408" id="SVP">
                <param name="movie" value="viewer.swf" />
                <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />
                <param name="flashvars" value="xmlDataPath=gallery.xml" />
                <!--[if !IE]>-->
                <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="viewer.swf" width="780" height="408">
                    <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />
                    <param name="flashvars" value="xmlDataPath=gallery.xml" />
                <!--<![endif]-->
                    <a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer">
                        <img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash player" />
                    </a>
                <!--[if !IE]>-->
                </object>
                <!--<![endif]-->
            </object>
        </div>

With this in the header:   <script type="text/javascript">
    swfobject.registerObject("SVP", "9.0.0", "expressInstall.swf");
  </script>

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Okay did some more testing and it seems to work good in IE7 and it works most of the time in IE6, but it rarely works in IE8 (ironically I might add). So I don't know what the heck is going on.

Oh and IE8's compatibility mode works and IE8 works if you reload the page immediately after it loads, or just click on a  picture.

Yeah they made a change to swfobject between 2.1 and 2.2, that's why I suggested 2.1... strange you had issues with 2.1.

Try this with your code.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>SimpleViewer Gallery</title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script>

<script type="text/javascript">
            var flashvars = {};
            flashvars.firstImageIndex = "0";
            var params = {};
            params.play = "true";
            params.menu = "false";
            params.quality = "best";
            params.scale = "noscale";
            params.allowfullscreen = "false";
            params.allowScriptAccess = "sameDomain";
            params.swLiveConnect = "true";
            var attributes = {};
            attributes.id = "galleryContent";
            swfobject.embedSWF("viewer.swf", "galleryContent", "100%", "100%", "8.0.0", false, flashvars, params, attributes);
</script>
<style type="text/css" media="screen">
    object { outline:none; }
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="galleryContent">
    <p>In order to view these galleries you must have <a href="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash">Adobe Flash Player</a> installed.
    If you know that you have Flash installed, then please ensure JavaScript and/or Active Content are enabled.</p>

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Okay, well I tried that and its about the same. IE7 works, IE6 usually works and IE8 doesn't work. Sheesh... I'm gonna try 2.1 again and see what happens.

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Hmm, got 2.1 to work and it works the same as 2.2, IE7 works, IE6 sometimes works and IE8 doesn't work.

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Only other things I can think of at the moment is to either look at the curvycorners and swfobject source and see if you can pick out how their IE specific code is conflicting or try a different version of curvycorners 1.2.10, 2.04 etc.

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

I'm having the same problem, wondering if you ever got to the bottom of it xenon?

What I have found is it has nothing to do with Simple Viewer - and it's not SWFobject's fault either, it seems that CurvyCorners + Flash wrecks havoc in IE8...

I've tried a number of other flash embed options and I still have issues.

I've been looking for alternatives to CurvyCorners in my latest attempts to overcome this.

hmm

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

One option would be to use CSS3's border radius and CSS3pie's code to get it working in browser's that do not yet support the feature.

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Thx Mike! That's an awesome suggestion and certainly a rounded corner option I've never stumbled on before. I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Mike,
CSS Pie is AWESOME!!!

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Glad to hear you are happy with that option.

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Mike,
Is it ok to post a link to my work with simpleviewer? Or perhaps there is a showcase forum?

Re: IE Issue with CurvyCorner and SimpleViewer Pro

Thanks Mike,

I initially started using your Simple Viewer gallery for a clients site which is still in development. That's the site that had me pulling my hair out over the IE rounded corners issue. I have to thank you for solving that one, and CSS 3 Pie is now in my web kit. I can't show that one yet, but will send you a link when its up.

I'm loving your galleries so much I have gone ahead and setup TiltViewer on a hobby site I run in my spare time:

Looking super sharp smile

Thx Guys.
