Topic: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

My gallery on my web page does not work in Firefox but works fine in IE.
The viewer on its own viewer.swf also doesnt show the pics. The text shows fine but no pics.

http://www.jenniferwilsonart.co.uk/Gall … lery1.html

Have tried changing paths in the html, have checked its not set at a % width...

Strangely another website I have created does work in Firefox but it is hosted at Streamline.net

This is the one which works :   http://www.bmyo.org.uk/photogallery.html
What on earth is wrong ?
Please help !
Thanks in advance for all help.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

It looks like you image and thumb folders are not in the expected location. Double check that you uploaded the folders. If the folders are there they either need to be moved to the right place or use imagePath="" thumbPath="" to point to them.

When trying to reach the files I'm getting a 403/404 error.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

It works fine in IE though.

However I did go and write in that specific path to the subdirectory and it has made no difference.
I have images and thumbs both in the subdirectory of the folder where the html file is so that should be OK.

Do you have any other ideas ?

Thanks.

Are you using a Mac or a PC? if a Mac did you use Fetch to upload it?

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

I use a PC.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

Just done a further experiment.

I copied across the gallery from the orchestra one which was working in Firefox but is with Streamline.net as host.  Anyway it also doesnt work in Firefox when hosted in same place as my art website. Am finding out the name of the hosting site.
But again it works fine in IE.

So it would seem to be some combination of hosting company and Firefox causing problems.
Any ideas ?

Could it be that there is some coding which needs to be tidied up or more strictly written for it to work in Firefox with my current host ?

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

I suspect it might have something to do with hotlink protection (and the fact that IE and Firefox behave differently doesn't surprise me).
If you go to http://www.jenniferwilsonart.co.uk/Gall … y1/images/ and click on an image from within this folder, the image is displayed.
If you go directly to an image by typing/pasting the full image address into the address bar (eg http://www.jenniferwilsonart.co.uk/Gall … lburgh.jpg), then the 403/404 error occurs.
Ask your host if they use hotlink protection and if it is possible for it to be removed.
It might not be the answer but I guess it can't hurt to investigate further in this direction.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

Hello there,

I think you are onto something there !
Thanks very much.

I tried it and see what you mean.

It may take me some time to speak to the host as my brother arranged the hosting for me so I wont get to speak to him until tonight but will let you know if it works !

Thanks again.
It would be such a pain if I cant get it to work as I spent two weeks making the website and cant believe I never tested it in Firefox !

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

Yes you were right it was that.

Thank you very very much !

However now I think I have to pay for a new host  sad

but at least people will see my pictures !!

Thanks again,
Jenny

yes im having issues with my gallery not working on firefox. i used fetch to upload my files ..... what does that have anything to do with it?

please take a look and see if anything obvious stands out?

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

Older versions of Fetch have been known to break the swf file on upload.
However, your gallery looks fine to me (Firefox 3.6.2 on Windows 7 x64).

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

I'm also unable to get simpleviewer to load in firefox or Safari and quite a few other browsers for that matter; however, it is of course working just fine in internet explorer 8. This is the first time Ive tried to impliment it on a site I'm building. So far as I can tell its been installed correctly though since its working perfectly on IE.

the index.html file and the gallery.xml files are in the main directory, the Vcore thumbs and images are in their correct places....So I dont think the problem is there. In the link above for the advice given about hotlinking, doesn't apply here.

I believe the simple viewer code is somhow conflicting with the Jquery coda slider code that I'm trying to embed it into. If I take the code out, the site works fine aside from a few layout issues Im working to correct. Im not sure what is causing this since it works fine in IE and I've never messed with simple viewer before. Here is the site Im building so you can take a look at the source.

Thank you for any advice you can lend me.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

You should use a Doctype Declaration at the very beginning of your HTML document (before the opening <html> tag).
Choose a suitable one from here: http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html
Then run your page through the W3C Markup Validation Service and fix any errors found which should give you greater consistency in displaying your web page across different browsers.
It looks like your <div id="content-area"> has no closing tag.
Also, this FAQ might help: http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/su … ml#embed_7

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

I had to take off the docutype declaration earlier. for some reason everytime I put it in, nothing in the site woked at all, not even in IE. So for the moment Im leaving it off. I have been periodically revalidating through w3c while working all day today, I may have deleted a closing tag since the last time I validated. ether way this problem with the viewer has been happening in spite of either of those issues since it's existed before I deleted the docutype and before w3 returned the div error which Im looking at currently. any other troubleshooting ideas?

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

http://www.particle9productions.com/rac … lory/index

Ok today it has a complete bill of health from the validator, docutype installed everything is working fine ... except the simpleviewer. So as I said before the aformentioned issues had no barring on this issue. When I comment the simpleviewer out, of course everything works great, aside from needing to write in the conditionals to fix the layout irregularities...The simpleviewer, barely works in IE now, refuses to work in Firefox and safari. It just continually loads forever in the other two browsers, but in IE it hangs on load time for a while, and if I refresh a bunch of times then I might convince it to load the page. I am on a bit of a deadline here so I need to get this to work asap. if anyone can help I'd sure appreciate it.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

Try adding the following code before line 23 of your 'index.html' page:

$.noConflict();

... and also adding the following code before line 283:

jQuery.noConflict();

... to give the following sections.

<script type="text/javascript">
//<![CDATA[
$.noConflict();
$().ready(function() {
$('#coda-slider-1').codaSlider();
});
//]]>
</script><!-- End JavaScript -->
<!--START SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED.-->
<script type="text/javascript" src="svcore/js/simpleviewer.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery.noConflict();
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
SV.simpleviewer.load("sv-container", "510", "280", "transparent", true );
});
</script>
<div id="sv-container"></div>
<!-- END SIMPLEVIEWER EMBED -->

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

Wow thank you so much for all of that code, I'll plug it in and see what I get and let you know. Thanks for getting back to me, very much appreciated.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

hmm well the site isnt hanging on load anymore... the code seems to have killed the Jquery plugin completely. in all three browsers.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

Perhaps keeping the gallery separate from the main page might help.
You could try this method of embedding the gallery: Using an External Gallery Folder

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

I'm really stuck. Long story short, I'm having the same problem with Firefox that everyone else seems to have. BUT...here's the deal. I go to www.simpleviewer.net and then try one of the demos. None of the demos work for me in Firefox. I'm using Firefox 3.6.8. Any thoughts?

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

HA! that worked for the most part sir. There is now a white border around part of the viewer though, I didn't see any cell pading in the code though. but by and large yes that solved the big issue of the viewer hanging up the J query coding.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

@particle9
In your main HTML page, use your <iframe> as you are already doing (setting the width and height as required).
However, in the page being loaded into the iframe (mygalleryfolder/index.html), replace the line:

SV.simpleviewer.load('sv-container', '510', '280', '000000', true );

... with:

SV.simpleviewer.load('sv-container', '100%', '100%', '000000', true);

... so that the gallery fills the <iframe> no matter what its size.

Re: My Simpleviewer galleries not working in Firefox+tried all suggestions

@mxmcevoy
Try running Firefox in Safe Mode Start -> All Programs -> Mozilla Firefox -> Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) (not Windows Safe Mode).
This will disable all add-ons (to ensure that nothing is interfering with the displaying of the gallery).
You can also go to this page to check that Adobe Flash Player is installed (and the version number).
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
(Firefox requires a different and separate Flash Player installation than Internet Explorer.)
