Topic: Flickr Tags

Hello,

I used Flickr and it worked fine, but when I tried to use tags it returned no results.  I tagged the images on flickr with "portfolio" and then entered "portfolio" into the tags parameter in the XML file but no images were returned - just "no images could be found" within the SWF when I loaded the page.

Anyone got any ideas why it wont load the tagged images, even though the tags are both the same on Flickr and in the XML file?

Also how do you use a Flickr user who's username has a space in it?

Thanks,

Oscardog

Re: Flickr Tags

There may be a delay between adding tags on Flickr.com and having the tags returned by the Flickr API. I would suggest waiting a few hours for the new tags to show up.

Also how do you use a Flickr user who's username has a space in it?

Just enter the user name as normal, spaces wont cause a problem.

Re: Flickr Tags

But they're creating a problem!

I have entered my username which has spaces and the gallery returns no results.  It's in the format "XXXXXX X XXXXXXXXXXX" there are capitals in the username for the start of each new 'part'.

Any ideas? I tried using underscores and using HTML spaces(%20) but it's no good.  I also tried the friendly url on flickr which is just lowercase all one word - no luck.

Anyone?

Re: Flickr Tags

To get your flickr user name, login to flickr and look for the 'signed in as...' text at the top right. You can also get a Flickr username from a Flickr photostream url here (second field down).

Re: Flickr Tags

...

The url is http://www.flickr.com/photos/selinatphotography/

When I type that in a website I get the ID 44859898@N08

I type that into http://www.xflickr.com/fusr/ and I get the following information

nsid:
44859898@N08
username:
Selina T Photography
realname:
undefined
profileUrl:
www.flickr.com/people/selinatphotography/

As you can see teh username is above, but when entered into your software it renders no images.

Re: Flickr Tags

Also when using the link you gave me here were the results:

Flickr Username:  Selina T Photography
Flickr ID: 44859898@N08
Flickr URL: http://www.flickr.com/people/selinatphotography/

Yet when I enter that into SimpleViewer = "No Flick user found"

I also redownloaded and reinstalled the web folder, still no success.

Re: Flickr Tags

Ok the username has now been changed to "selinatphotography" so there are no spaces, and this is the information retrieved when entering the photos URL into one of those 'flickr info' things:

Flickr Username:  selinatphotography
Flickr ID: 44859898@N08
Flickr URL: http://www.flickr.com/people/selinatphotography/

As you can clearly see the username is "selinatphotography" but when I put that into your software does it work? No it claims it cannot find the flickr username, why?

Re: Flickr Tags

Hi,

I'm not sure. Is the user under 18 years old?

Re: Flickr Tags

When I hit http://www.flickr.com/people/selinatphotography/ it says "This member is no longer active on Flickr."

Re: Flickr Tags

Yeh I think I found the root of the problem.

You have to make sure that privact settings for 'site search' are all set to "yes" so they allow the API to be accessed, by default this is open for anyone over the age of 18 but for anyone under using the software they cannot as the option that needs to be enabled is not an option hmm

Might want to add this in / amend your documentation! smile
