Topic: Can I make the Thumbnails Larger??

Since the whole thing with Flickr and Simpleviewer not working properly together I have had to look for alternate options for gallery configurations for my clients. With that said I was wonder if there was a way to make the Thumbnails Larger like www.secretihausrottweilers.com/family/  This is what my client would like, though I am not sure if I can do it with SV, or at least I didn't see an option for it, I was wonder if I could change some code in the SV file.  Right now the galleries have the tiny thumbnails and once you click on that they change to the larger image.

Re: Can I make the Thumbnails Larger??

You can make the thumbnails larger with SimpleViewer but only for the Flash Player version of the gallery.

When creating a gallery with svBuilder-Pro, click the 'Change...' button in the 'Image Size' control panel on the 'Images' tab and choose the thumbnail dimensions you'd like to use. Thumbnail images will be generated at the specified dimensions and the thumbWidth and thumbHeight configuration options will be set accordingly in the gallery's XML file. The thumbnails will then be displayed at the specified dimensions in the gallery but only when the gallery is displayed by the Flash Player. If the gallery is displayed by the Mobile Player (in browsers which do not have Adobe Flash Player installed and enabled), then the thumbnails will be displayed at the default dimensions of 75 x 75. The Mobile Player was designed as a fallback mechanism (so that gallery images can be viewed on non-Flash-enabled devices) rather than a fully-featured image viewer within itself and, as such, supports far fewer configuration options than the Flash Player. The Mobile Player Options can be found here.)

Right now the galleries have the tiny thumbnails and once you click on that they change to the larger image.

It sounds like, in order to display your Flickr images, you might have forced your gallery to be displayed by the Mobile Player (by deselecting the 'Use Flash' checkbox in svBuilder-Pro's 'Customize -> Embed Options' section). If this is the case, then, unfortunately, it is not possible to change the size of the thumbnails.

Perhaps the best solution would be to switch to our HTML 5 image viewer, Juicebox and, as a SimpleViewer-Pro user, you are eligible for a 30% discount off the cost of Juicebox-Pro. Please see this blog entry for details.
Juicebox-Pro supports Flickr, has many more configuration options than the Mobile Player within SimpleViewer (such as the ability to change the thumbnail dimensions) and does not use Adobe Flash Player at all.
It is also possible to convert a SimpleViewer gallery to a Juicebox gallery by following the Converting a SimpleViewer Gallery instructions.

I hope this helps to clarify things.

Re: Can I make the Thumbnails Larger??

Hey Steven,

Do you know if they are in fact still honoring the discount and if so do you know if it would work towards the purchase of Showkase Pro Bundle? Ideally that is what I want to purchase. I submitted the discount form yesterday and haven't heard back yet which is fine, I just need to keep my client up to date since it is going to be used on her website.  Thanks in advance, you are always on top of responding back and I appreciate that.

Yes. The discount for upgrading to Juicebox-Pro from SimpleViewer-Pro is still available.

... and if so do you know if it would work towards the purchase of Showkase Pro Bundle?

As far as I'm aware, there is no official upgrade path from SimpleViewer-Pro to Showkase-Pro but please wait to see what response you get from the admin team.
If you have not heard back from them in a couple of days, please let me know by posting back here and I'll investigate further for you.

Re: Can I make the Thumbnails Larger??

It has been 3 days and still no response. When I go to the blog page that I filled out the form, my original submission is still there and says "your comment is awaiting moderation". So if you could look into it that would be sweet!! My client just wants to pull the trigger and pay for it but I want her to be able to utilize the discount, it would be a whole lot cheaper. Thanks!

Re: Can I make the Thumbnails Larger??

I think I know what has happened.
The instructions for requesting a discount code say "please email us with your SimpleViewer-Pro transaction id or purchase email address" (with the 'email us' text being a 'mailto' link).
However, it sounds like you might have filled in the 'Leave a Reply' form. This just leaves a comment on the blog page (and the admin team will not have been notified with your request).

Don't worry, though. I'll help you out.
Please check your email. I have sent you a message.
Thank you.

Re: Can I make the Thumbnails Larger??

Hey Steve, thanks for the help with getting squared away!! I am super happy the gallery is back to normal now, I wish I would have looked into Juicebox when the whole thing went sideways with the flash support or whatever the issue was.

Re: Can I make the Thumbnails Larger??

You're welcome!
At least you now have Juicebox-Pro so you'll no longer be troubled by any Flash related issues.
