Topic: Google/WF say SimpleViewer.net has"deceptive site" w/ Critical Bad Url

Hi,

1) I have Wordfence on my sites and they came back with the following Critical Problems warning messages today from their scans:

"Critical Problems:          Files contain suspected phishing URL:

.../svcore/js/simpleviewer.js [various files ending in that]

Bad URL:    http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/pro

Severity:    Critical"

2) i don't recall ever using Simpleviewer, only Tiltviewer -- are the Simpleviewer files referenced above applicable to use of Tiltviewer? (since Tiltviewer is what i was using on my site before it became unusable with Flickr)

3) likely related to the Wordfence scan alert, there is the following warning message on Chrome when attempting to access a Simpleviewer Product url from your Simpleviewer site:

"Deceptive site ahead
Attackers on www.simpleviewer.net may trick you into doing something dangerous like installing software or revealing your personal information (for example, passwords, phone numbers, or credit cards)."

I'm guessing that Google has got it wrong in flagging that Simpleviewer url as potentially malicious and dangerous, but am checking here first. Is that url and those files 100% safe? Should I ignore the Wordfence Alerts that are saying those are dangerous files?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Google/WF say SimpleViewer.net has"deceptive site" w/ Critical Bad Url

1) I have Wordfence on my sites and they came back with the following Critical Problems warning messages today from their scans:

Thank you for reporting this problem.
I see what I expect is a related issue issue when trying to view http://simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/pro in Firefox 54.0.1 (Windows 10 PC).

Please let me reassure you that there is nothing malicious within our web site and that the report is a false positive.
I have already filed a false-positive report here: https://safebrowsing.google.com/safebro … ort_error/

2) i don't recall ever using Simpleviewer, only Tiltviewer -- are the Simpleviewer files referenced above applicable to use of Tiltviewer? (since Tiltviewer is what i was using on my site before it became unusable with Flickr)

The 'simpleviewer.js' file is purely for SimpleViewer (not for TiltViewer) and the only link to our web site from within TiltViewer is to the page https://www.simpleviewer.net/tiltviewer/ from the link in the lower right corner of TiltViewer-Standard (the free version) galleries.

3) likely related to the Wordfence scan alert, there is the following warning message on Chrome when attempting to access a Simpleviewer Product url from your Simpleviewer site:

I reckon #1 and #3 and the similar problem I see in Firefox are all related (to the same database of 'deceptive sites') and, hopefully, the false positive report I have filed will convince those at Google to remove 'simpleviewer.net' from their database.

Should I ignore the Wordfence Alerts that are saying those are dangerous files?

It is unfortunate that 'simpleviewer.net' has somehow been flagged as a 'deceptive site' but it should hopefully be only very temporary and there is no harm in ignoring the warning (as, in this case, it is a false positive result).

Thanks

Re: Google/WF say SimpleViewer.net has"deceptive site" w/ Critical Bad Url

It looks like the 'deceptive site' warning has now been lifted.
Hopefully you'll not see any further warnings from WordFence, either. If you do, then, as a WordFence user, perhaps you could report the false positive result to them.
We previously had a pop-up on the https://www.simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/ page (advertising our other software, Juicebox and Showkase) which we suspect might have been triggering the warning and we have now removed this.
