Topic: SimpleViewer No Longer Works

I was a happy user of the SimpleViewer WordPress plugin for many years. Then suddenly it failed without warning. Galleries disappeared and I can't create new ones.

I updated WordPress to the latest version and reinstalled the plugin. No joy, the previous galleries (which have not been moved) can't be found and again, I can't create new ones.

It's been several months and I haven't been able to resolve this. I could really use a hand.

The site in question:

Re: SimpleViewer No Longer Works

From the shortcode which is displayed on your page [svgallery name=”brooklyn-navy-yard”], it looks like your galleries were created with WP-SimpleViewer v1.5.4. Please see this support section for details.
Hopefully reinstalling WP-SimpleViewer v1.5.4 will solve your problem.

Re: SimpleViewer No Longer Works

Hi, Stephen,

It's been a while, but I've finally gotten the time to struggle with this older site. I followed the directions you sent and reinstalled SimpleViewer v. 1.5.4. But the result is the same. The plugin can't find or even see the galleries folders. The text of the error on the plugin management page on the WordPress dashboard is:

The following directory does not exist - please create it and upload your images to subdirectories of it: /public_html/wordpress/wp-content/photos/

But they can all been seen on the web: … allery.xml … smlb01.jpg

I've tried new themes, deactivating every other plugin without effect. I'm stumped.

Re: SimpleViewer No Longer Works

Unfortunately, WP-SimpleViewer v1.5.4 was retired many years ago (in 2010, I think) when the plugin was rewritten for v2.0.
I realise that this might not be the answer you were looking for but it might actually be easier to recreate your galleries with the current version of the plugin (which is still actively being developed and supported) rather than wrestle with v1.5.4 whose source code neither you not I are particularly familiar with.

Does the error occur in the admin section or when trying to view a SimpleViewer gallery on a web page?
Could you please post the URL of a SimpleViewer gallery page that does not work so that I can at least see the code that is being generated? (None of the galleries on the 'Galleries' tab seem to be SimpleViewer galleries.) It might help. Thank you.

If you'd like me to take a look at your setup, I would be happy to do so but I'd need access to your web server and WordPress site. If you are agreeable to this, then please let me know and I'll send you an email address where you can forward your login details to me.

I can't promise that I'll be able to solve your problem (the best course of action really might be to move on to WP-SimpleViewer v2.3.2.5) but I'm certainly willing to try.
