Topic: buildgallery.php seems to work, but the viewer isn't working

So I set the correct permissions and I ran the script. The pages produced successful results, and the thumbnails were all created along with the gallery.xml.

However, when I go to view my new gallery, I get a bunch of empty boxes and the title is still "example title".

I have deleted the cache, and that isn't the problem.

Any ideas?

Did you edit the header section of the buildgallery.php before you ran it?
ie $options .= '<simpleviewerGallery etc. etc......

Are all the gallery files in the same folder with 'images' and 'thumbs' as sub folders?

yep.

I didn't change any directory structure... what header option do you think might cause this error?

It seems like everything worked correctly. The xml files all look good, and all the thumbs were generated. The problem seems to be that the .swf isn't finding what it needs to find.

So just to confirm this is how your folder looks on your web server:

your_gallery_folder
.........images
.........thumbs
.........buildgallery.php
.........gallery.xml
.........index.html
.........swfobject.js
.........viewer.swf

You do not need imagedata.xml and gallery.xml
imagedata is from V1.7, gallery.xml is V1.8

check this line in your index.html
fo.addVariable("xmlDataPath", "gallery.xml");

and this line in your buildgallery.php
$xml .= '</simpleviewerGallery>';
//next line can cause erroneous warnings
//chmod( 'imageData.xml', 0777 );
$file = "gallery.xml";

ah, ok, we are probably on to something then. I downloaded 1.7 (cause the page said there might be some errors with 1.8)

but it seems like I also got 1.8 files or something.

I'll try to start over by downloading 1.8

SUCCESS!

using 1.8 worked. I think I downloaded the wrong buildgallery.php to go with v1.7

anyway, now my problem is that it shows the pictures in the opposite order that I intended... but I think I saw an answer to that in the FAQ.

The order displayed is as per the order in the gallery.xml

The order writen to the gallery.xml is as per the following in buildgallery.php

// Set sortImagesByDate to true to sort by date. Otherwise files are sorted by filename.
$sortImagesByDate = false;

// Set sortInReverseOrder to true to sort images in reverse order.
$sortInReverseOrder = false;
