Getting Started

  1. Download and unzip the Pro zip file from the download link that was emailed on purchase.
  2. Install and run svBuilder-Pro to create your first gallery.

Universal Playback

iPad Support

SimpleViewer-Pro now includes SimpleViewer Mobile, a HTML5 version of SimpleViewer specifically designed for mobile devices that do not support Flash. This includes iPhones, iPads and Android devices. SimpleViewer Mobile provides a minimal interface to better present images on a small screen.

The mobile version of the gallery is automatically created and is displayed if the user's device does not have the Flash plugin enabled. To see this in action, view any SimpleViewer-Pro demo using a mobile device.

Upgrading Templates to Pro.

We reccomend using svBuilder-Pro as the easiest and most powerful way to build a SimpleViewer-Pro gallery. You can also build SimpleViewer-Pro galleries using various templates and scripts. Follow these instructions to upgrade templates to use SimpleViewer-Pro.

Common Terms

The following terms are used frequently in this documentation:

  1. Gallery Folder - this is the folder that contains the index.html file, gallery.xml file, gallery images and thumbnails and the svcore folder. To publish your gallery, upload the gallery folder to your website.
  2. Config Options - a list of options that describes a gallery's behavior. Contained in the gallery.xml file. View config option descriptions here.
  3. gallery.xml - this document describes how your gallery behaves. It contains gallery config options as well as image and caption data. An XML file is a simple text file that can be edited in any text editor.
  4. Local Gallery - a gallery that loads images and thumbnails from the gallery folder. Image information and captions are specified in the gallery.xml file.
  5. Flickr Gallery - a gallery that loads images, thumbnails and text from Flickr.
  6. svCore - this folder contained in the gallery folder, contains all the core files required by the SimpleViewer gallery.

Upgrading Standard Galleries to Pro

To upgrade existing SimpleViewer standard galleries to SimpleViewer-Pro, replace the svCore folder in your existing gallery folder with the one that comes in the Pro download web folder.

Color Profile Support

SimpleViewer-Pro supports ICC Color Profiles which can provide more accurate color display. Check the 'Use Color Correction' option in svBuilder-Pro to enable this feature.

When 'Use Color Correction' is true, SimpleViewer-Pro will use Flash 10's color correction when possible. This can provide closer color fidelity for images with embedded color profiles, but can also cause color shifting on some systems. To ensure your image colors look the same on all systems, we reccomend you save your images without a color profile. Check the FAQ here for details.

Adding Branding

There are multiple ways to add a logo or branding image to your SimpleViewer-Pro gallery. These are ordered by how easy they are to implement:

  1. Use the Watermark options to add branding as a watermark image over the main image.
  2. Use the Background Image options to add branding image at the top-left of the gallery. Set the BackgroundURL option to point to your logo image. Set BackgroundScale to 'NONE'.
  3. Use the Title options to add the image into the gallery title area. Using svBuilder, set the title text to  <img src="mylogo.png"></img>. Also set floatTitle to 'false' and set titleHeight to be the height of your image.
  4. Add your branding into the HTML page that embeds your gallery.
  5. Embed SimpleViewer into a container SWF and add branding in the container SWF.

Presets

SimpleViewer-Pro allows you to load gallery option presets into existing galleries by using the presetURL flashVar option. This allows multiple galleries to share a common style. A preset file loaded via the presetURL option will overwrite any options in the gallery.xml file with the contents of the preset. Create a preset file using svBuilder-Pro. Set the presetURL in the same way as for other flashVar options.

Presets only affect options that relate to gallery appearance, not gallery content. The following options are not affected by presets: Local image data, Flickr search options, title, audioURL, backgroundURL.
